Northern Lights has been on the production scene for quite a few years now and has brought us a number of hits. From the time of the debut album "Sparked," Northern Lights decided that a follow up album would be dubbed "Re-Lit." It's a Bhangra album that packs in great beats and renowned vocalists.

What We Think
Today's Bhangra scene is very influenced by modern techno, club sounds. Northern Lights is staying true to his Punjabi roots and brings us a classic Bhangra album. "Re-Lit" packs in 16 songs. So the album definitely has quantity, now it's time to take a look at its quality.

The album starts with "Putt Jattan Da Bounce." The track has a heavy beat and got us bopping. The next track, "Nakreh," takes on a very traditional Punjabi sound that gets a 2009 facelift as the chorus sets in. As "Akhan De Ishareh" starts to play, we recognize the remarkable vocals of the late Kaka Bhaniawala and we enjoy this beat too.

To balance all the up-tempo songs, "Ishqeh Da Tumba" is just slightly slower and adds depth to the album.  "Aashiq Bethe Neh" also adds slower, more emotional vibes to "Re-Lit." Back to the dance floor, "Re-Lit Tappe" is a fun tune with all that makes a track a Bhangra one: Punjabi lyrics, dhol beats, and strong vocals. We later hear Lembher Hussainpuri on "Yaaran Naal."

Teri Maa

With all the sick beats and amazing vocalists on the rest of "Re-Lit," "Teri Maa" is the one that we didn't truly love. Having said that, it is a decent track. It's not one for dance floors or one we plan on playing as we cruise down the motorway. Therefore we feel this is the weakest track on the album.

Final Verdict
Northern Lights has truly managed to present us with a great Bhangra album with just the right touch of modern elements. The beats are all unique yet traditional and the vocalists are the best of the best. We recommend this album to all Bhangra fans out there looking for some great beats. Northern Lights was not trying to be quirky with lyrics club beats and we appreciate the traditional aspects of "Re-Lit." The album hits stores on October 30.
