Veronica

The Official Artist Page

Veronica first came onto the music scene at the age of 16, when she auditioned and won the part of female vocalist for the 2Kool album '2Kool Flavor'. She featured on the track 'Sambhala Hai Meine', and has since gone from strength to strength. Veronica quit her Art Studies to persue her dream of a singing career, and teamed up with Rishi Riley (Rishi Rich) to forum VR1, a band and production unit applauded for experimenting with traditional asian music, remixing, and giving vocals an R'n'B twist. VR1 sold more than 50,000 records throughout the UK and Europe, and picked up two Asian Pop Media Awards. Since VR1, Veronica joined ePark / Urbanstar and released the single 'Girls Gotta Have Fun', with both CD's having various mixes of the title track, as well as the fantastic 'Show me Love'. At the moment, Veronica is working towards her album; she's already dropped a few tracks with her new management record company 2Point9, 'Indian Girl' featuring Hard Kaur, and the popular 'U 'n' I (Mere Dil Vich Hai)', from teh Yash Chopra film 'Hum Tum' - a track that Veronica composed. 'U-n-I, Mere Dil vich Hum Tum', a guest track produced by Richi Rich and sung by Veronica and Juggy D, this youthful racy track composed by Veronica herself justifies the money's worth for the album.

Born in West London into an Asian family, Veronica discovered her voice at an early age and nurtured her musical passion by writing her own songs and performing. She hooked up with a production team to record a single and before long she was supporting the likes of Omar and Apache Indian.

Around this time, Harrow based producer Rishi Rich, was looking for a female vocalist to collaborate with. He invited Veronica to team up with him and they formed VR1, an outfit considered by many as being a major influence in Asian music culture. Recording over 5 albums, VR1 sold over 250 000 units worldwide, performed at various gigs supporting artists such as Foxy Brown and Hinda Hicks. In 1997 Veronica picked up two awards for best female singer at the Asian Pop Media Awards and Movie Awards.

In 1999, VR1 signed to Apache Indian's label, Sunset Records, and released the single 'Whatcha gonna do', which featured a ragga bridge by the man himself.

Veronica's debut single 'Show me love', was serviced to the clubs in 2001 and quickly made a significant dent on the urban underground. As well as reaching pole position in almost every urban chart, it was also critically acclaimed everywhere from Smash Hits to Blues and Soul, who enthused that it was "A welcome respite from- and riposte to – the rut that US R 'n' B is currently digging for itself, and the best R 'n' B record ever made by anyone of Asian origin."The single 'Girls Gotta Have Fun' was released on August 6th 2001 on limited release. The video was shot in glamorous Las Vegas and received high rotation on numerous music channels and TV stations. Veronica has made appearances on mainstream TV such as, MTV 'The Lick', Kiss TV, Pop World, BBC 2 'Asian life' (documentary), Channel 5, Cable TV 'Where it's at', B4U, Sony TV, Channel East, Zee TV, Network East (BBC 2) and Fuji TV (Japan). During this time Veronica has also been the cover girl for the glossy magazine Snoop and has received press coverage from magazines to newspapers such as Smash Hits, Hip Hop Connection, India Times, Just 17, Asian woman, Eastern Eye, Hello mag to mention a few.

In August 2001 Veronica supported the legendary Charlie Wilson in concert at the Hammersmith Apollo, performed at the Carlton Multicultural Awards 2002, and presented a weekly radio show ‘The Vibe’ on the BBC Asian Network.

Veronica has also found time to write for other artists such as, Misteeq 'Roll On' charted at number 7 (UK national charts), Harvey from So Solid Crew, Abs, Ayesha, Jay Sean and Devoted. Appeared as the guest vocalist on the Ultimate Kaos remix single, 'Baby We're Dancing', featured and written on the Danny K remix 'Hurt So Bad', performed backing vocals on the De Nada 'Loving You Anyway' remix, performed 'No Other Guy' on Rishi Rich's debut album ‘Simply Rich’, and also featured on Turkish single ‘Yana Yana’by Hakan.

Lead vocalist in the band ‘Sister India’ headed by DJ Ritu, Veronica has toured worldwide from National Theatre, London to World Music Festival, Norway.
