2009 Pantaloons Femina Miss India Contestants Give Back

March 25 2009 15:45 PST

Twenty of the sexy finalists of Pantaloons Femina Miss India beauty pageant did something pretty cool. It's not unusual for contestants in pageants to talk about what they do to help others. Well these babes took that idea one step further and launched a nationwide campaign to shed light on the myths of cancer. The idea is called the "Femina White Ribbon Initiative". The campaign was supported by three powerful entities including Femina Magazine, Tata Memorial Hospital, and the Nargis Dutt Foundation.

The focus of the "Femina White Ribbon Initiative" was to teach on the importance of early detection, prevention and curability of cancer. The day at Tata Memorial Hospital included informatory talks. Some of the attendees included Dr. Mohan Das, Dean of Tata Memorial Center, Nargis Dutt Foundation representatives Namrata Kumar and Kumar Gaurav, Femina Editor Tanya Chaitanya and artist and former Miss India Anjana Kuthiala.

A moving fashion show was put together by the Miss India 2009 contestants. They walked the "catwalk" in an uncustomary way-hand in hand with the cancer-affected children. After the show, each child was crowned 'Femina Little Princess'. There's no doubt this was truly an exciting moment in the lives of these sick children. The fun didn't stop there for these kids-Walt Disney India organized a movie screening for all 150 children!

Tanya Chaitanya said of the event "The most beautiful verb in the world is 'to help'. And we at Femina Magazine believe that every woman has the capacity to turn this verb into action. As a part of the Femina White Ribbon Initiative, the participants of the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2009 pageant will spread cheer and smiles in the lives of little children afflicted by cancer. Join us in our quest for finding beauty within."

We know this was an event that a lot of people wished they could be a part of. That's why Desi Hits! was there to get some pictures of the fun event that will hopefully touch the lives of many. Check them out and let us know what you think.
