VOTING ENDS OCTOBER 21st!
DH!: What do you think of Sean Kingston’s track, ‘Beautiful Girls’?
Kashif: I think it’s very cool! I’m a big fan of Sean Kingston.
DH!: What about the remake, ‘Bollywood Girls’?
DJ Vicious: I thought it was cool that he re-recorded his vocals and mentioning all the Bollywood actresses was a good idea. When we heard about the remix, we were totally down.
DH!: What do you guys think about the other DJ’s versions? Which one is your favorite?
Kashif: We can’t hate on anyone….::sings his own version::..But, we like our version the best!
DH!: What was your inspiration while putting together the Sean Kingston remix?
DJ Vicious: Initially, we were told to give it a Bollywood vibe. So, we just went into the studio and vibed. The first version we came up with, we weren’t too crazy about. So, one day, late at night, Master D. got up and said ‘Wait, I think I got it’. Then, Kashif came in and he jumped on the track, too.
DH!: What do you think about mainstream artists coming to India? For example, Sean Kingston.
Kashif: As an artist, you want to grow. Music is so redundant right now. So, mainstream artists want to try something new. Most of the world knows how big Bollywood is, right now. Everybody knows Shahrukh Khan. Also, from a marketing perspective, it’s a great way to catch another industry.
DH!: Tell us how The Bilz and Kashif got together.
DJ Vicious: We’ve been working together for about three years now. Kashif and I went to high school together. I hooked up with Master D. and did a few re-mixes that really got heard. Kashif’s deal with his group ended and he reached out to me.
DH!: Where do you have the most fun performing? Canada, U.S.?
DJ Vicious: It’s pretty much equal everywhere. The love we get from Toronto and the rest of Canada is really huge.
Kashif: We get MySpace messages from all over the world! We love traveling and every single city is special.
DH!: Tells us about your latest single, ‘Turn The Music Up’. What’s the song about, from your perspective?
Kashif: I just love this single! I remember, it was a late night and we were having a blast in the city and that’s where the song came from.
DJ Vicious: We were touring a lot in North America and the house music in the clubs inspired us.
DH!: What is your new album called and what is it about?
DJ Vicious: The new album is called ‘Breaking Barriers’ and it features a lot more electro-pop. Our last album basically featured other artists. This article is strictly us three; The Bilz and Kashif. Master D. has his vocals on the album, singing in Hindi and Punjabi. The album also features more mainstream collaborations.
DH!: Who are you collaborating with?
DJ Vicious: We can’t really tell you much about it, yet.
DH!: Why would our readers like the album?
DJ Vicious: Because the album is breaking barriers! The direction is very different. It’s not a typical album. We’re trying to be very eclectic on the composition. The main goal on this album is to bring in more electro-pop into the industry.
DH!: What’s the next single that’s coming out?
DJ Vicious: We’re debating on what single to work on next. So, we might either release two singles at the same time or combine them.
DH!: Do you have any Bollywood projects in the works?
DJ Vicious: The first Bollywood project that we’re working on is the animated version of ‘Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena’ called ‘EKEH’. ‘Two Step Bhangra’ from the last album is going to feature in the movie and that’s why we’re here in Mumbai, right now. We’re also talking to Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan about some deals and we’re just trying to see what fits with our type of music.
DH!: How was it opening for ‘The Unforgettable Tour’ in Canada?
DJ Vicious: It was an amazing experience to be able to open up for the best for in the industry. We were representing North America. Abhishek is very fun to chill with and he even asked for a CD! He’s really down to earth and he loves our music.
DH!: Tell me about a memorable touring experience.
Kashif: The Unforgettable Tour was amazing, especially meeting all these stars that we grew up watching. Another magical moment was during ‘Summer Rush 2007’ . We opened for Enrique Iglesias! The best thing was that 18,000 people singing along to ‘2 Step Bhangra’. We’re talking about white people, too.
DJ Vicious: We’re performing in Dubai at Club Candy, inside the Crowne Plaza which is known to be the number one Asian club in Dubai. We’re very excited about that.
