Get ready for another Hip-Hop installment of 'The Best of Both Worlds.' This time though, instead of R. Kelly and Jay-Z, it's going to be the two superstars behind the massive 2005 hit, 'Soul Survivor.' In an interview with Dime Wars, Akon's brother Abu said that Akon and Young Jeezy are currently in the studio recording an album together.
"The Akon and [Young] Jeezy album is coming real soon," he said.
Both of them are two for two so far in making hits together. 'Soul Survivor' off of Young Jeezy's debut album 'Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101' made Young Jeezy a household name, while Young Jeezy returned the favor by jumping on Akon's new song 'I'm So Paid,' which also features fellow superstar Lil' Wayne.
Abu promises that this collaboration will top the two installments of "The Best of Both Worlds" that R. Kelly and Jay-Z recorded. "It's gonna be the hottest album of the year," he said. "It's gonna be classic."
Both artists are flying high on the charts right now. Akon's new album 'Freedom' climbed back into the top 10 of the Billboard 200 Album Chart, while Young Jeezy is on his way towards platinum status with his latest album, "The Recession."
The news of this album is the latest in a string of rumored collaboration albums between hip-hop and R&B artists. Young Jeezy has been previously linked to a joint album with Def Jam rapper Juelz Santana called "The Best of Both Hoods," while there have also been talks of an album starring Lil' Wayne and T-Pain called "T-Wayne." A Lil' Wayne and Juelz Santana album titled 'I Can't Feel My Face' was due out last year, but has since been delayed.
Despite mixed reviews and little promotion due to R. Kelly's sexual assault case, both R. Kelly and Jay-Z's albums were successful, going platinum and gold, respectively. Abu thinks that not only will this collaboration be hot, it will also be necessary.
"It's gonna be timeless because it's needed right now," Abu said. "It's gonna be crazy. Stay tuned for that. It's gonna be huge, huge, huge."
Some of these collaboration albums always sound good on paper. However, most of them never escape label politics. Let's just hope this album ever see's the light of day because if it sounds like their other two hits, Abu just might be right about this being the hottest album of the year.
