Well what can we say about 'Slumdog Millionaire' that we haven't said before? It's everywhere. It's been at the forefront of every major awards show and seems to be featured at Desihits on almost a weekly basis. In fact having a week without 'Slumdog Millionaire' is like having a bowl of cornflakes without sprinkling two pounds of sugar on top of it. So if you didn't get your 'Slumdog' fix and you're about to go into withdrawal, then have no fear because Desihits is to the rescue.
The 15th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards are over and everything is rosy for 'Slumdog Millionaire.' The movie won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The cast that won includes Rubina Ali, Tanay Hemant Chheda, Azharudan Mohammed Ismail, Anil Kapoor, Ayush Mahesh Khedekar, Tanvi Ganesh Lonkar, Ashutosh Lobo Gajiwala, Madhur Mittal, Dev Patel, Irrfan Khan and Freida Pinto.
Also Dev Patel as older Jamal was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. But he lost to Heath 'why so serious' Ledger who won for his performance as the Joker in 'The Dark Knight.' These two were up against such heavy hitting actors such as Josh Brolin as Dan White in 'Milk.' Robert Downey Jr. as Kirk Lazarus in 'Tropic Thunder' and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, that's right the man that kissed Mark Wahlberg in 'Boogie Night's'
The fight for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role was a tough one. The actors nominated for this were Richard Jenkins as Walter Vale in 'The Visitor,' Frank Langella for his portrayal of 'Tricky Dick' Nixon in 'Frost/Nixon.' Sean Penn as Harvey Milk in 'Milk,' Brad Pitt as Benjamin Button in 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' and the ex-pretty boy Mickey Rourke who now has the face of a worn down beaten up AMC Gremlin for his performance as Randy in 'The Wrestler' were also nominated. But in the end the award went to Sean Penn.
For Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role Kate Winslet as Hanna Schmitz won for her performance in 'The Reader.' She was up against Amy Adams for her role as Sister James in 'Doubt.' As well as Penelope Cruz, who is better known for being involved with Tom Cruise during the abysmal 'Vanilla Sky' as Maria Elena in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona.' Viola Davis as Mrs. Miller from 'Doubt' along with Taraji P. Henson as Queenie from 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' was also nominated.
Until some other awards show comes up the next major awards show for 'Slumdog Millionaire' and the rest of these movies appears to be the Oscars. We here at Desihits wish these movies good luck.
