Anoop Desai Advances to Next Round in Week 2 of American Idol

Unlike week one of the American idol competition, Anoop Desai passed this week with flying colors as he is assured to get to another week of singing in front of millions.  After struggling mightily in week one, Simon Cowell described it best after Anoop Dog performed 'Always On My Mind.'  Cowell said, "Anoop you went from zero to hero."  31 million people voted this week and they made sure Anoop got one step closer to becoming the American Idol.

The unlucky contestant to go home was Alexis Grace, who just seemed like she was trying too hard as she sang Dolly Parton's 'Jolene.'  This send off was a bit of a surprise as many thought the Memphis, Tennessee native would be able to shine during Grand Ole Opry Week.  She was at the bottom of the rung in a bottom three that included Allison Iraheta and Michael Sarver.  Anoop Desai this week breathed a sigh of relief as host Ryan Seacrest told him he was safe, his first time being told that considering the week before, he was on the chopping block alongside Jorge Nunez, though he would eventually survive elimination.

Now, getting past this week shouldn't be that big of a deal right?  It is because by being part of the top ten, the Idol participants are guaranteed to go on tour.  Yes, Anoop Desai will be coming to a city near you when the Season 8 American Idol Tour kicks off this summer.  Unfortunately for Alexis Grace, she as well as last week's booted Idol contestants Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez will not be going on tour with the rest of the crew.  Even if Anoop Desai doesn't win the competition, he will still perform, record songs with the crew and get that tour money while getting to perform in front of thousands every night.

Next week, Anoop Desai and the rest of the Idols will be singing Motown tunes.  It'll be interesting to see who will be the special guest next week.  This week it was country music superstar Randy Travis.  Artists like Smokey Robinson have come in to assist the Idols in the past, so next week will definitely been a nostalgic trip down memory lane for some of the older viewers.  It is reported that Smokey Robinson will perform next Thursday (it is on a Wednesday /Thursday schedule next week due to Barack Obama's presidential address on Tuesday).  As long as Anoop doesn't choose anything related to Michael Jackson, he should be fine.

So what do you guys think Anoop will do for an encore next week?  Is he going to sing some Marvin Gaye?  Smokey Robinson?  Maybe even a song from the Temptations?  Let us know what Anoop Desai should do next week to wow the judges one more time.
