Anoop Desai has had a real good run on American Idol. Some would even say an unlikely one, too. But last night is the last night Anoop will be able to show people what he's made of after getting eliminated on American Idol. He had been getting used to being in the bottom three since the first week of Idol, but he just couldn't dodge two eliminations.
"I am so really disappointed, I really am. This is all of our dreams," he said after hearing the news.
If you watch the show just like me, American Idol always starts off very predictable to the point where you don't feel like paying attention to it initially. As usual, the Idol contestants lip synch the night away and sell people Ford vehicles for the first 15 minutes. If there's one downside to the dwindling Idol contestants, it is that they'll need to fill the airtime now with more and more fluff and product placement. Ugh. As for the '70s medley later on? That was forgettable. I never cared for David Archuleta as a performer so while he might have sounded decent, I was waiting for the final elimination.
After that ended, we got to the good stuff. This week was a big week because two people had to go home. The first person that got eliminated was early Idol contender Lil Rounds. I'm not going to lie. I thought she would be in the finals going up against Danny Gokey (my pick to win it all.) There was no denying that she could sing, but she just lost her luster as time progressed and wound up going home because of it.
The big crime was that Matt Giraud did not go home after singing a bland version of The Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive." In fact, he got saved. Allison Iraheta, whom many feel can legitimately win the competition was in the bottom three, making the final elimination very anti-climactic. Even all you Anoop fans saw the writing on the wall when the decision was between Anoop and Allison. After that, you were just waiting to see whether Anoop can hit that last note that he butchered the night before. Anoop messed up on one thing. It is never good to sing a song with an ominous title. Unfortunately for him, he took a Donna Summer song called "Dim All The Lights." They sure did... on him. If it makes you feel better, Matt will likely go home next week as the other four contestants are on a higher level of talent than him.
If you thought Disco Week was awkward, corny, and just weak like I did, then next week is going to be an absolute snooze fest. Your parents might like it though. Next week, it will be the Rat Pack. Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, you know, the 1950s. Also, former American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will stop by to bore, I mean sing to the millions watching at home. If you sleep through it or skip it, I'll understand.
The show won't be the same without Anoop Desai. We saw him go from the guy who looked like he was going to a tech meeting to Anoop Dog, master of stage. Anoop probably has what will go down as one of the biggest highlights of this season after Simon Cowell memorably added another spot to the Idol lineup just so he could participate. He lasted longer than many people thought he would. He'll get to go on tour with the rest of the guys and who knows, maybe on the season finale of Idol, he'll grace the stage one more time. While I didn't expect him to win, I was sure rooting for him to go as far as he could. Some nights he was off. Other nights he was king. It's a shame he has to go home now, but remember Anoop, Desis everywhere had your back. Job well done Anoop and remember, this is not the end.
So, do you guys feel that Anoop should have gone home last night? Are you surprised that he's going home? Do you think Anoop will have a successful post Idol career the way Daughtry or Jennifer Hudson did? Will you miss him on the show? Drop us a comment on Anoop's last night on American Idol.

U noe if he goes to India to start his singing career..he can be the next big thing! I think he has a great singing voice and everyone will love him!
If Anoop is as gud as he is then he doesnt need an American Idol tag to prove himself. I never was a fan of these Idol(both American n Indian) competitions nd never will b! ..
@AjayNYC WOW! I did not know that! that's so messed, and unfair...but i'm sure he'll make it big in India
Yes, all the desis did have his back. But that wasn’t nearly enough. I hope everyone caught on to what was going on behind the scenes. There was a reason why Ryan Seacrest was being so obnoxious to Anoop on live TV. He was trying to, or instructed to try to elicit a negative response from Anoop so that the audience watching would dislike him even more. That was just too obvious. There was no subtly there what so ever. But Anoop, like the classy gentlemen that he is, kept his composure. Secondly, even in this day and age where we have an African American President, there are so many people that have straight out posted on various sites that they will not vote for Anoop no matter what because of who he is. Some have even gone as far as ridiculously calling him a “terroristâ€, and that he is out of place on “American†Idol. He has endured so much more than any of the other contestants have because he had to deal with pure hatred, bigotry, and racism. Unfortunately, America will never really know that. I just can’t wait for his album to drop!!!
onnnn tooo bad, he was really good, he made the desi's proud...unlike snajaya :(
