While his run on American Idol has come to an end, many doors will be open to Anoop Desai to continue his fledgling music career.  One of those doors could have PETA on the other side.  The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is lobbying for the Desi Idol to represent their cause by being their latest celebrity spokesperson.  They have publicly reached out to him for support, but no word yet on whether Anoop has accepted the offer or not.

The Indian chapter of the US-based organization wrote a letter to Desai this past Wednesday asking him to appear in a video supporting its Animal Birth Control (ABC) campaign to "implement humane methods of controlling companion animal populations in slums" in India.  PETA has publicly bashed companies like McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken as well as celebrities for their alleged treatment of animals.

"[Anoop] is a huge hit in India because of being an Indian," PETA India campaign manager NG Javasimha said.  "He is an inspiration.  There are sentiments of Indians associated with him and we want him to join the cause like previous 'American Idol' Vanessa Olivarez, Kellie Pickler and Ruben Studdard as well as judge Simon Cowell in using his celebrity status to help PETA help animals."

Anoop Desai hails from Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  He recently just dropped out of the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill to continue to pursue a career in music.  During the semi-finals of American Idol, Anoop took time out to honor Eve Carson, the student body president of the University of North Carolina who was killed a year earlier.  He has shown awareness, compassion, and kindness for others so it is understandable that PETA would look to him as a spokesperson.
