A.R. Rahman Turns 43!

January 07 2009 20:30 PST

Some of our readers may not know that yesterday was the birthday of a very important Indian Golden Globe nominated film composer. We of course are talking about A.R. Rahman, who was most recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his work in "Slumdog Millionaire".

The amazingly talented musician turned forty-three yesterday and in the absence of any real celebration events, he decided instead to go about his day as usual. The well known music composer who has written music for a countless number of films which include everything from "Dil Se", "Taal", and "Lagaan", to the recent smash hits "Ghajini" and "Slumdog Millionaire" decided to spend his birthday just taking care of business and keeping things very low key. Since Muharram is one of the months in the Muslim calendar when Muslims are in mourning, it's no surprise that A.R. Rahman didn't spend the day partying and participating in festivities honoring his special day.

There was a low key impression that surrounded the musician as he went about his day as if it was like any other. A.R. Rahman's lack in celebration however, didn't stop television and radio stations from celebrating his lifetime of achievement! They instead spent the day playing many of A.R. Rahman's biggest hits on the airwaves for everyone to enjoy. Although A.R. Rahman rightfully wasn't in the mood for celebrating, he still didn't make it to the music launch party at JW Marriott in Mumbai, which occurred on Tuesday, the night of his birthday. But he still made himself accessible by video conferencing to the media.

We here at Desi Hits want to wish A.R. Rahman a happy birthday and a long life that's full of more music! Desi Hits readers, send A.R. Rahman some love today to celebrate his life and accomplishments so far!
