B-Town Movies to Watch Out for in '08

January 03 2008 18:56 PST

OK… while we get over the films of 2007 and decide which ones we needed and which we could have done without… We at Desi Hits! are giving you a belated Xmas gift by making things easier for you in 2008. We bring you the list of films that you need to clear out your diaries for…

'Jodhaa Akbar'

Ahustosh Gowarikar's magnum opus 'Jodhaa Akbar' stars the beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Jodhaa and Hrithik Roshan as the Mughal King Akbar. It is the story of Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar and a fiery young Rajput princess Jodhaa who enter a marriage of alliance between two cultures and religions, for political gain, with the Hindu King Bharmal of Amer giving his daughter's hand to a Muslim Emperor, Akbar. Jodhaa Akbar traces the life of the mighty emperor and his romance with a defiant princess. The film boasts of huge sets, well shot war sequences and sword fighting between the two lead stars. Release Date: February 15, 2008 'Race'

Shot primarily in South Africa, Abbas Mastan's 'Race' promises to be a fast paced action packed flick. The film stars Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Sameera Reddy and Bipasha Basu. From Saif performing some kick ass stunts to the chicas looking drop dead gorgeous the film has horse racing as its back drop and promises you one smooth ride. Another reason to watch Race is because this was the same film that resulted in Saif and Bips becoming very "close friends" and they have a hot steamy item number together to prove it as well! Release Date: February 22, 2008 'God Tussi Great Ho'

Based on Jim Carey and Morgan Freeman's hit comedy Bruce Almighty, Rumi Jaffrey's 'God Tussi Great Ho' has Amitabh Bachchan playing Freeman's role while Salman is Carey. But as much as Salman and his ex-girlfriend's current father in law are good enough to watch the film, what makes 'God Tussi Great Ho' slightly more great is that the sets of the film were nothing short of a drama fest considering the cold looks exchanged between Priyanka – butter won't melt in my mouth- Chopra and Salman – never mess with me - Khan. From screaming at one another to refusing to talk to each other than while filming dialogues, this film had more action off screen than on! Now as long the duo ensures we get as much garam masala on screen we all will be saying Rumi Tussi Great Ho! Release Date: March 22, 2008 'Bhoothnath'

Casper comes to Bollywood…well of sorts… Ravi Chopra's Bhootnath will make the Big B into a ghost and will play around his friendship with a little boy. The film also stars Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Priyanshu Chatterji. And although the film comes from a renowned B-Town filmmaker it is more (in)famous for the alleged cold war between Amitabh and SRK which caused their shots together to be constantly postponed. However thankfully for the producers all the filming has finally been completed and the film stands for release in 2008. Release Date: April 2008 'Tashan'

'Tashan' is where Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan started their own tashan… oh you mean you want a STILL better reason to catch this flick. Well the film boasts of an impressive star cast of Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. It marks Akshay's return to the Yashraj banner after 12 years and Anil's after 15 years. Shot at different locales including Haridwar, Greece, Ladakh and Rajasthan. Saif's son Ibrahim will also be seen in the film… oh… c'mon the fact that Bebo and Chhote Nawab got it on during this film is reason enough! Release Date: April 25, 2008 'Sarkar Raj'

No matter what one says of filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma thanks to 'Nishabd' and 'RGV ki Aag,' RGV does know how to make films and if 'Sarkar' is anything to go by then you can be sure that 'Sarkar Raj' will be nothing short of phenomenal. Starring the Big B, Abhishek Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya, the film was a coup of sorts for the filmmaker as he got the entire Bachchan clan together. The original was based on the Hollywood blockbuster The Godfather while the sequel is said to have the backdrop of a crucial dam project being built and Aishwarya's role is believed to be modeled on Enron executive Rebecca Mark. Ash plays the role of a contemporary business woman in the film whose mission is to convince those opposing a dam construction just like Rebecca's had been. Release Date: May 23, 2008 'Drona'

More than anyone 'Drona' is important for Abhishek Bachchan because it will finally allow the Mr. Aishwarya Bachchan to prove that he is more than Ash's loved up hubby… On a more serious note 'Drona' is a fantasy-action film starring Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Jaya Bachchan and Kay Kay Menon. The film was initially due to be released around December 2007 but due to a special effects procedure, the film is schedule to release in April 2008 now. Priyanka Chopra plays Abhishek's bodyguard in the film and has supernatural powers with which she protects Bachchan who is said to have supernatural powers that he is unaware of. Directed by Bachchan's close friend Goldie Behl the film has been shot in Prague, Rajasthan and Namibia. To prepare for her role, Priyanka even learnt a Sikh form of martial art called Gatka.
