Bald ambition prompts Amir Khan to shave head!

June 17 2007 19:00 PST

Is it any surprise? We’re talking about the man who traipsed about in a dhoti for 'Lagaan' and grew a wild mane for 'Mangal Pandey.' Perhaps Amir was so sick of that mop on his head that he pulled a Britney and sheared it all off for the Hindi remake of the South Indian hit, 'Ganja' – I mean 'Ghajini.' Fortunately, it has all worked out for the best – now Amir’s shiny bald pate can match his glinting smile. In 'Kajiri' (the movie’s Hindi name), Amir’s role is that of a man who is injured and suffers amnesia after trying to save his lover from a band of thugs. As a kind doctor helps him regain his memory, he slowly remembers what had happened and vows to avenge his lover. Why baldness is necessary is beyond us, but hey, whatever floats his boat. In fact, Amir was offered the option of wearing a wig, but he was determined to get the role right and took to his head with the buzzer. Amir might look like he belongs in a monastery right now, but his hero status, cemented in hits like 'Rang de Basanti' and 'Fanaa,' is uncompromised. It’s only a matter of time before every adolescent boy in India shaves it all off to emulate his idol.
