Bobby Jindal: A Desi Challenge to Barack Obama?

By Matt Richardson

New president Barack Obama has been in office for less than 24 hours but he could have competition in the history department when he runs for re-election in 2012.  It could very likely wind up being a race between the country's first black president and it's first Indian American if or when current Louisiana governor Piyush "Bobby" Jindal decides to toss his hat into the ring.

Like the new president, Jindal is young (37), smart and the son of immigrants.  His parents, Amar and Raj, are both Indian immigrants who came to the United States in the early 1970's.  Jindal, a Republican, was a Hindu but converted to Catholicism during high school.  He has three kids with his wife Supriya: Selia, Shaan and Slade.

Bobby Jindal came close to making history this time around when Barack Obama's opponent, John McCain, supposedly spoke to Bobby Jindal about becoming his vice president candidate last summer.  John McCain made history of his own, however, when he chose only the second female vice presidential candidate ever.

2012 could be different though.  With Barack Obama proving that race can't hurt your chances to become President, we could wind up seeing the first President of Desi descent in history - maybe even in the next election!  So what do you guys think?  Could history be made two elections in a row?  Or is Barack Obama here to stay, regardless of a Desi challenge?

taking into consideration that majority of obama's votes came from ignorant first time and youth voters who were only fond of his "hip"ness... the same will happen when they encounter bobby jindal. He is known as the Republican Obama and as soon as the ignorant people (being those who don't vote based off issues and policies) and the youth get a taste of him they'll vote for him. They could care less about abortion rights and same-sex marriage. heck, california is a "democratic" state yet majority of the people are against same-sex marriage. what an oxymoron. Unless all the black people and supporters remain faithful, Obama will hardly stand a chance to a reelection. The only chance he'll have is if he fucks up his 2nd and 3rd year but does well his 4th year. Everyone will forget his mid-term screw ups and reelect him. But apparently mainstream media takes the cake and everyone is still fooled. hell, the guy bombed Pakistan today and NOBODY is talking about it. where are these liberals and left-wing people to cry foul??????????

Even though he may be Desi and it would be cool to have a Desi president, I wou'dn't want him to be president. He's a staunch republican who is pro-life with no exceptions, against same-sex marriage and even voted for the federal marriage amendment, and voted yes to make the Patriot Act permanent among other things. After 8 years of a republican who ruined the country I don't think he would be the wisest choice for America, nor would America want a strict republican like him. Hopefully President Obama does a great job and will serve a second term in 2012.

This could end up rather interesting in the future when it is time to elect the President of the United States. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
