One of the most coveted award ceremonies in the Bollywood film industry took place last night. V. Shantaram who was a triple threat during his life, the actor, producer, and director received awards for directing and best film during his career, so it's no surprise that when the Shantaram Awards come around every year that only the best of the best are even nominated for the honor.

Upholding a rigid standard which is more exemplary of the Desi culture, the awards guidelines state that films which have violence or sexuality in the movie are not eligible for admission into the event. For parents, this is one award ceremony that will give them an idea of what to watch with the family. Well, this past Friday was an evening when the annual award ceremony which took place in Mumbai identified some of the hottest new films, directors and writers, and actors, causing them to receive well deserved recognition for all their hard work.

Aamir Khan is on fire, and seems to be walking in the path of the legendary V. Shantaram, for his directorial film debut Taare Zameen Par, Aamir won four awards. That tribute included Best Director and Best Film Gold Award. The cute young actor Darsheel Safary, who Aamir actually discovered and who starred in the movie took home the Best Actor Award for his touching character.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan won the Best Actress award for her role in 'Jodhaa Akbar'. Neither Aishwarya nor Aamir were able to be present to receive their awards, but there were plenty of other sexy Bollywood celebrities that graced the stage on the important night. Other awards which were distributed included Best Cinematography, Best Writing, and Best Sound. Music composer A.R. Rahman, writer/director Farhan Akhtar, and Jaya Bachchan amongst many others were attendants.
