Hit Or Sh!t: 'Fashion'

Pulsating beats, bright lights and glamour are the first things that come to mind when you think of a high energy fashion show.  All this is captured in director Madhur Bhandarkar's film, 'Fashion,' - one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.  Naturally all eyes, (or ears) were on the soundtrack.  I checked out the Sulaim-Sulaiman produced album to let you know whether it lives up to it's glamorous expectations or slips and falls on the ramp.

'Fashion Ka Jalwa':  The soundtrack opens with passionate vocals by Sukhwinder Singh and Satya Hinduja, along with a rap.  It's unlikely party track, with unusual lyrics, but it works.  It's hard not to listen to it and imagine the stars of the film, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse charging down the ramp with attitude.  It may take a few listens, but once you're hooked it's hard not to move your body to the beat.

'Mar Jawaan':  With haunting Arabic vocals by Salim Merchant and emotional Hindi vocals by Shruti Pathak, "Mar Jawaan" mesmerizes and is easily the stand out track off the album.  One listen to the track and I was hooked, as it evokes emotion and feelings as well made music should.  Definitely a track that I'll be listening to well beyond the film's hype fades.

'Kuchh Khaas':  The Mohit Chauhan and Neha Bhasin sung track is the one romantic number of the album, which is picturized on Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Bajwa.  It's a melodious track that's an easy listen, something you can listen to while having dinner with your sweetheart (hint, hint, guys!)  It also features the haunting theme music of film.

'Aashiyana':  Featuring vocals by Salim Merchant, this is the only track on the album which screams, "play me in the clubs!"  With carefree, youthful lyrics, it showcases the lighter side of the fashion industry.  While it's an easy listen, it's easily a forgettable track.

'Theme of Fashion':  The instrumental track features the same haunting background vocals from "Mar Jawaan," yet doesn't pull you in from the first listen as "Mar Jawaan" does.  In fact you probably won't listen to it more then once until perhaps after you see the film.  That being said, Salim and Sulaiman have doe a great job on production.

On a whole, 'Fashion' works.  It's an impressive soundtrack, which does a great job of bringing to life the glamorous, high paced world of fashion with music.  I would definitely recommend picking up "Fashion," which proves to be a sure fire hit!
