Yeah, Anoushka Shankar is still a youngin’ at 26, but she’s already been touring half her life and that’s probably because her Dad is famous sitarist Ravi Shankar! Yet, we do have to say she’s a hot musician in her own right. Her music has always been classical Indian, but that drastically changes with her new album, “Breathing Under Water.”

For this album she chose to collaborate with Six-Degrees artist, Karsh Kale and together they created an abstract fusion album that takes you on a musical journey.

The duo has been travelling almost all their lives; in fact the album was actually created while they traveled from New York to California, Dehli to Bombay and back to Dehli…phew! what a crazy schedule! There was never a doubt that Anoushka’s sitar playing would be featured on every track; yet Karsh brings in the guitar, tabla, keyboard and vocals.

With Anoushka’s famous genes, it doesn’t surprise us that the album features major guests, like Sting, her father Ravi Shankar and her sister Norah Jones, who she worked with for the first time.

Anoushka and Karsh have already performed the tracks at San Francisco’s Stern Grove concert theatre in front of a 14,000 full capacity crowd! “Breathing Under Water” is breath taking example of world music at it’s finest; a perfect blend of Eastern and Western sounds.
