Can Big B bring sexy back!?

Chini Kum (2007) staring Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu has just released in theatres…go get your tickets! So, what can we tell you about this movie? It was actually a very pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, it is a little snail paced at the beginning, but don’t let that scare you off, stick with it as I did and hopefully you will be in absolute hysterics as I was over a certain scene in the first half when Big B attempts to purchase a packet of condoms from a Desi pharmacy in London – I think they were banana flavored to be precise! From a slow start the film blossoms into an engaging and meaningful story which is embraced by an intelligent and witty script and intricate characters that hold it all together. I don’t imagine this film will be a crowd pleaser in India (which is often a good sign for me!) as there are no big song and dance routines (which as a Desi Fly Chick I/we rather like) but this is a very clever movie that makes you think… we like to think…right?! So, in a nutshell the story of Chini Kum is of a 64 year old Buddhadev Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) who is a chef and owner of London's top Indian restaurant. His passion in life is his cooking until Nina Verma (Tabu) walks into his life with her flirtatious smiles and dry sense of humor. Big B is definitely pushing the envelope with his recent trail of movies with unconventional story lines… we like it! Let’s see if he lets his daughter-in-law do the same or have we seen the last screen snog from Ash now that she’s married into the Big B clan!? After watching this movie all I want to say is Bollywood needs to bring “Sexy” back and I am not talking about what you think! (You’ll get my drift if you watch the movie). “Sexy” is the little girl in this movie and she is a complete trip! – I hope you love her as much as we did! Go watch it and tell us what you think….

film was OK - I think tabu is so boring and needs some speeding up - there are some funny parts.

I would like to see a UK/US film made on a similar topic as I got a bit lost with the subtitles - and I did not laugh with the audience but I agree the topic was handled very well. I am an older man and I have much life in me yet!

i am not indian but saw this film last night after all the comments I read. this was an excellent film and i think the topic was handled in a very sensitive way full of class and elegance. My father is with a much younger woman and it has made me see things very differently - thank you for the recommendation. Lena T - stevenage UK

i liked it - it was different and funny but i don't think this will not do well in india as they won't think that a 64 year old could be full of passions.... this was done in a way that they did not portray him as a "sick old man"

excuse me I think it is only Big B that could get away with doing roles like this and getting Indians to move on in their thinking - i say bravo

Big b - retire you dirty old man - I don't want to watch you buy condoms and seduce women 1/2 your age. I don' care who you are.
