I think artists are best when they stretch the boundry's that they come from and introduces new people to a scene and the music in it. Touching white people, black people, Latino's...etc. Whichever Desi artist does that, should be the artist of the year because the most powerfull thing a singer can do is to bring people from many places together to enjoy one thing...MUSIC!! Which ever artist crosses the most cultural bridges gets my vote! "To transcend a scene is to elevate the entire scene".

I think 2008 will be Jay Sean's year after his 2nd album "My Own Way" is released! That way we'll see all his work--not just released hit singles. He's a smart kid and has all of us siked in anticipation with the all the PR on radio, tour, TV... you name it. Best new Desi Artist of the Year I think would is Imran Khan for "Ni Nachle". But best Desi Artist would probably have to be Swami. Rishi Rich had a strong production year too with Mumzy and H Dhami but also tracks like "Look 4 ME" by Hard Kaur ft. Ash King. I like Blitzkrieg's Rhyme Book too. Actually this year has been great for Desi Artists as a whole. And that's exciting! Good Luck to them in the new year and Thanks for keeping our ears happy! :)

Well...Currently Jay Sean has a song on all the POP stations in the UK. As far as I know he and MIA are the only ones to do that recently. And then of course Thara has had songs on Urban Radioin the states. Which makes her kinda different then the others in the sense that I can listen to Hot 97 and hear her songs but no one elses. That deserves some attention..no?

It's all over this website and everywhere else...hit the itunes button at the top of this very page and watch the video that comes up. the song has been massive in the UK and is just starting to blow up here in India as well since Swami are releasing their album here soon. Their album is incredible! The track with Pras (Fugees) on it is my favorite I think...its a killer!!!

here in New York the only ones people talk about are Jay Sean, Thara and Raghav... but thats not saying others aren't good! I don't know any of Swami's music. M.I.A Seems to be forgotten in the scene because she moved out of it and into the mainstream. But she had a big year of course. Thara had a big year too, toured with Ne-Yo, album released in Japan, Duet with John Legend...maybe not artist of the year, but worth Noting in this convo. lol

Common people...you judge an artist in a year from various pieces not just one or two songs. Jay sean shouldnt even be a consideration keeping in mind he hasnt released more than 2 songs. i cant believe M.I.A hasnt got any mention...she has got very little play in the urban desi scene but she is HUGE in the mainstream... oh and no im not a jay sean hater...i love his stuff aswel..i just think thers been better work done fromother artists this year. it should be between swami, m.i.a and rishi this year i must say..if not the whole thing d be a joke..
