Desi Hits! Takes you to the UK Asian Music Awards, London 2006 The Desi Hits! team were amongst some of the biggest stars of the British Asian Music industry who congregated at London’s Hammersmith Palais to celebrate the annual UK Asian Music Awards 2006. Of course your faithful Desi Hits! was there to give you the scoop and details of who won the Desi Hits! Unsigned Talent Award. Celebrated artists such as Rishi Rich, Veronica, Sef, Hard Kaur, Mentor Kolektiv, Alaap, Metz and Trix, Swami, Aman Hayer, Shahin Badar, Raghav, Kray Twinz, DJ Cameo and Desi Hits! very own DJ Hanif, the infamous Arun and P from the Urban Desi Show and Jags Klimax from the Bhangra Klimax show attended the ceremony. The Desi Hits! Unsigned Award was scooped up by bad boys, 3 Mix. Arun from Desi Hits! was delighted to give the award and commented “We’re looking forward to seeing more from 3 Mix on The Urban Desi show. Overall, It was a fun packed night featuring the cream of UK South Asian talent…With stunning performances from the likes of Niraj Chag, Raghav and Sonna it shows the industry is in safe talented hands. Bring on 2007!!!!!” Kray Twinz won the ARY DIGITAL AMA for Best Single and commented “We should have had three awards but we are happy with the one! It’s good that the UK AMA have taken the initiative to recognise Asian artists. I think Asian artists should also support one another more.” PICTURE OF KRAY TWINZ Niraj Chag opened the show with a spectacular performance. The audience were also treated to live performances by Swami, Raghav ft Iceberg Slim and Juxi D, Shahin Badar, Swami, Sonna Rele and Aman Hayer. Sef won two awards for Best Newcomer and the Best Urban Act. Bhangra artist Sukshinder Shinder also scooped two awards – Best Album and Best Video. Niraj Chag won Best Asian Underground and was delighted with his award: “It was great to open this year’s Asian music awards and a real honour to receive the award for Best Underground Act. It’s refreshing to see alternative Asian music being recognised.” Other winners on the night included Veronica for new category, Best female Act, Juggy D for Best Act, Aman Hayer for Best Producer, Gurdas Maan for Best International.

Miss England title-holder, Eleanor Glyn joiner Former kick boxing world champion Ali Jacko to present the UK AMA for Commitment to the Scene to Farook from Joi. He was delighted with the award and said: “It’s so beautiful to see so many Asian artists committed to the scene, I would never have thought when my brother and I first put out a record 20 years ago, that I’d be standing in front of so many creative Asian people collecting this prestigious award – as a movement moves on, Joi!"
