Diddy Working on A Concept Album

February 19 2009 19:20 PST

Diddy's going to Paris and he wants us all to come with him!  Well, maybe not literally, so please don't pack your bags, but for his next album, Diddy is looking to take his fans there as his album called 'Last Train to Paris' is going to be a conceptual album.  This album, scheduled tentatively for September 22, is a love story told in Diddy's own way.

"One of the things, I wanna give you that's not out there yet is that it's not me as a solo artist," Diddy told MTV News. "It's a group I put together; myself and two girls. Two young ladies, you may know them or you may not. It's almost like some back-in-the-day Loose Ends-type s***. We're going to be telling the story of Last Train to Paris."

Diddy reveals the main core of the story, which is basically a race against time to get on a train to rekindle a love he claims he messed up.  Sounds interesting!

"So, I go on tour and I'm in London. I get a tip that she's in Paris, and it's 9:45 p.m. or something. It's one of the foggiest days in London, so I can't take my plane. I can't drive, the road is shutdown. The only way I can get there is the last train to Paris, and it leaves in 20 minutes and I'm 15 minutes away. It's that whole intensity of what happens on the train ride - and will she be there when I get there - is something else you'll hear," Diddy said.

Diddy really goes in detail about this album, which he also wants to turn into a movie.  While Diddy insists this is his not his 'Purple Rain,' it's a movie he is taking very seriously.  Diddy said he's looking for that 'hot film student' to undertake this project.  Hey, if that hot film student is you, you might wanna give Diddy's office a call and offer to film!

"A movie is going to be shot to it too," Diddy said. "It's definitely going be an album you can seamlessly see. Not after the fact. When you get the album on that day, September 22, you will be able to see the whole album on your computer. I go into production of the movie in May."

Diddy's become very experimental as of late.  His last album, 2006's 'Press Play' dabbled in funk, rock, house, and techno, working with everyone from Nicole Scherzinger  and Pharrell to Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo.  The album produced two top 10 hits and has sold 700,000 copies to date.  That was a really cool album and this one sounds cool too!  Word is, he's got Pharrell, T-Pain, The-Dream, and Rodney Jerkins all ready to provide beats for this one.  Well at least you can be assured that that the beats are gonna be good!

While you guys are waiting for this album, you'll still be able to find Diddy on Making the Band 4 as he figures out where Danity Kane, Day26, and Donnie Klang should go next in their careers.  Of course you know he'll always stay on the scene at parties, music videos, fashion shows, you name it.

By the way, when did Paris become the new 'in' thing in hip-hop?  First Lupe Fiasco wants to go to sleep in Paris, and then Kanye West wants to move there, now Diddy travels there on this record.  I guess the Eiffel Tower is more hip-hop than I thought!

So, tell us what you think about Diddy's new album plans.  Do you think you're open to hearing about a love story from Diddy's perspective, or do you just want him to do what he does best: make you dance?  Drop us a comment about Diddy!

WHOA DIDDY! Slow your role! That kind of sounds like what Dallas Austin is doing... a "See The Album" concept. Dallas is releasing it this year entitled "8Dazeaweakend", and has been working on it wayyyy before Diddy even came up with the concept. But then again, they are friends, so maybe they are working together on it. Who knows? "8 Dazeaweakend is basically a reality experience based on a girl I knew in ATL. I met her with my cousin Juan hanging in after parties and stuff. But this particular weakend she told me she had booked her first psych appointment for Monday and that she was gonna party her ass off the whole weakend. I said "Damn that's strange, maybe I'll make an album of it or an experience so that everyone could share in it." I want people to feel music again and actually see the album. So here I have created a real experience with real music and real friends of mine." See it for yourself... here is the link to Dallas Austin's EPK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbN-r3GttI8
