Harry Potter fans crowded theaters last night, dressed in wizarding gear along with signature lightning bolt scars and circular glasses, for the midnight showing of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Fans waited in line for hours to enjoy the 6th film installment of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series. So was this film worth the wait?
While the characters in the "Harry Potter" series have grown up, so has the plot. No longer are Harry, Ron, and Hermione first year students at Hogwarts trying to find their way around the castle, but rather, they are now trying to find their way through internal mazes, known as their hearts. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" becomes less dark and more light-hearted as a lot of the plot circles around the love triangle of Ron (often known as,"Won-Won!"), Lavender Brown, and Hermione.
While the film left out some interesting scenes and details from the book, a new scene was added to showcase the insanity of Bellatrix Lestrange and the love interest between Harry and Ginny Weasley. That's right! Harry and Ginny finally admit to their feelings for one another, and are a bit cautious of how, older brother and best friend, Ron will react!
Quidditch also makes its return in the action-packed games and once again, there is refreshing humor as Ron battles his nerves. The drama and suspense are ever-present as Harry goes on a journey to extract memories from the new potions teacher, Professor Slughorn. You read that right; Professor Snape finally wins his desire to be the Defense of the Dark Arts teacher. A win or a lose? We'll let you be the judge. The viewers also get to experience the magic of memories through the mysterious pensieve and just how mindboggling teleporting through apparating is.
The only thing that "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" did not cover well is the sorrow that Harry feels after Dumbledore's death and the relationship that builds between the two as they go on a quest to find Voldemort's split up souls, known as Horcruxes. However, the scene in which they found one of The Dark Lord's Horcruxes was done very well and will have you at the edge of your seat!
Overall, the film will have you waiting until the 7th installment of Harry Potter, which will be split into two films, and will be released in the summers of 2010 and 2011. Did you get a chance to see the film? Let us know what you thought by dropping a comment below!
