India turns 61 this year, and the brown boys, brown girls, uncles and aunties of NYC come out in droves to witness the madness of the parade down 5th Avenue. The sexy Deepika Padukone is the Grand Marshall of this year's parade. Last year Priyanka Chopra held that honor with a special end of parade performance by Urban Desi star Raghav.
The first extravaganza hosts Def Jam rapper Fabolous along with one of DesiHits.com's Top 5 MCs - Nivla. Zafer Ahmed of Define Entertainment came up with the block party concept for the event - something that has never been done before in the scene. The event will be hosted at two clubs adjacent to one another and guests will enter from one club into the other. Oxygen and The Madison, two clubs coincidentally around the corner from the parade endpoint, will host the event. Nivla will be accompanied by P Oberoi and GOP Virk is also scheduled to perform.
The other event hosts DesiHits.com 2008 Artist of the Year, Jay Sean, who is set to perform tracks from his new album 'My Own Way'. Will he perform the Hindi version of 'Ride It'? We have to wait and see. The event will be held in Times Square at Spotlight.
We all know that after these events there are crazy after parties! As the saying goes, "After the parade is the after party and"...well, you know how they party in New York City. If you don't, then you need to experience it for yourself, as the after parties fiercely compete with one another to have the best talent, the best music and the best crowd. Doors open at 4pm, and the parties don't stop till about 12 hrs later that's right - 4am.
Both events have the talent, the DJs, and the venues. Where will you be on Sunday night? If it's at home, then you're officially an Auntie or an Uncle! Happy Anniversary India!

hey desihits... your articles are awesome you guys are soooooo coolll.. muchos love.. if you need anything let me know!!! ;) ;)
What the crap! you people are so stupid just because they dont look indian doesnt mean they arent! These entertainers are performing because they want to represent india. dont get all bent over shape over nothing.
so lets get this straight, these guys want to represent indians on this event, well one things for sure nivla looks like a kaleh, so hes not indian, jay sean doesn't use his indian name, so he's not indian, so its all wrong hasnt it!
people this is an entertainment website, focusing on the entertainment industry. If you want news stories go to India Aboard's website. Yes some of the stories don't make sense, but whatever, remember the focus
This is my last comment...also, how about highlight Gandhi and that the fact India is an independent country because he sacrificed his life for his mother land? He proved that non-violence movements can be possible and stands as an international figure for independence. That's what India Day is remembered for and celebrated for.
This is Ankit Patel from Pway. Props to DesiHits for doing what you guys do, but there's a lot more than just Jay Sean and Raghav in the "Indian scene." How about an informative article telling us how what India's done in the past 61 years since we became an Independent country? On 3 June 1947, Viscount Lord Louis Mountbatten, the last British Governor-General of India, announced the partitioning of the British Indian Empire into India and Pakistan, under the provisions of the Indian Independence Act 1947. At the stroke of midnight, on 15 August 1947, India became an independent nation. Did you guys know that I. Day is celebrated all over the country through flag-hoisting ceremony and distribution of sweets. The main celebration takes place in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts. The Prime Minister also pays his tribute to leaders of the freedom struggle.
"Nivla will be accompanied by his sidekick - P Oberoi..." What is this? Some super hero showdown? Are Nivla and his "sidekick" P. Oberoi going to fight against bad rap or some 'ish like that. Ya'all are funny -- and good job on changing when India ACTUALLY got it's Independence. Ya'all need to get with your culture, there's far more happening that you seem to publicize.
Although India obtained its independence on August 15, 1947, the Constitution of India came into effect only on January 26, 1950..
