What Works:
After the movie starts to get going, it really is interesting and draws the viewer in. The characters are believable people who keep the moviegoer involved in the experience and the actors themselves do a good job of making certain that the roles are played in such a way that the person watching can't help but feel a certain level of involvement in the movie. Furthermore, it is filmed well and everything comes together to create a good experience.
What Doesn't Work:
The humorous aspect of the movie keeps a lighthearted feel that is nice, but the movie doesn't turn out that way. So the drama and heartbreak at the end comes as a bit of a surprise for those who are really not expecting it. So for those who saw the trailer, it's slightly misleading because although they show the eminent drama, they make it seem more lighthearted than it really turns out to be.
The Soundtrack:
The film's soundtrack was really good. There was a little bit of everything and the choreography for the few songs that did require dancing was really well done and well put together as expected. It was quite well done and offers some really beautiful songs.
Slated Or Rated?
For a debut film from Zoya Akhtar, this is a really good starting point. It has a lot of pleasant surprise cameo appearances and really pokes fun of the industry while at the same time showing the struggle the actors go through. But it doesn't end happily in the traditional sense that Bollywood movies give, perhaps that's part of the charm.
