Salman Khan - Deven Yuvvraaj is an easy cool guy for whom life begins with himself and ends with his love Anushka. A quarrel with his father was reason enough for him to leave home and live as a struggling singer. Devoid of family values he is forced to journey through the circle of love for the sake of money to complete his love story. Through his journeys he softens into a likeable and lovable person.
Anil Kapoor- Gyanesh Yuvvraaj is the centerpiece of all action. An autistic, he is completely unaware of the idea of money and therefore his enormous inheritance has no impact on him. All he wants is love. Since childhood he was brilliant in all aspects of music. He enters Deven's world of music and effortlessly becomes the superstar that Deven dreamt of being.
Zayed Khan - Danny Yuvvraaj is the real prince who lives life super-large. A playboy and a brat, he is sure that the inheritance would be his. Unable to deal with the loss of his playground (as casinos and clubs threw him out) he strikes out at Gyanesh in an attempt to get back what he thinks is rightfully his.
Katrina Kaif - Anushka is a beautiful, angelic girl passionately in love with music and Deven. A girl of very high values she refuses to marry Deven unless her father accepts him willingly
The Story
Deven Yuvvraaj (Salman Khan) is a struggling singer who signs an agreement with his girlfriend Anoushka's (Katrina Kaif) father Dr. Banton (Boman Irani) to be a billionaire in 40 days. To acquire this wealth, he has to go through an emotional roller coaster journey of joy and pain with his two estranged brothers Gyanesh Yuvvraaj (Anil Kapoor) and Danny Yuvvraaj (Zayed Khan) who he meets after 12 years. On meeting them, he realizes that they are two individuals who are completely opposite to each other, which makes his task all the more difficult. The story is about whom will emerge as the real Yuvvraaj in the end...This is a musical story of a fragmented family of three brothers Deven Yuvvraaj (Salman Khan), Gyanesh (Anil Kapoor) and Danny (Zayed Khan) fighting and playing games with each other to inherit their father's wealth. 'Yuvvraaj' is a drama of Money vs. Family seen through the lens by none other than Subhash Ghai.
What Worked?
Anil Kapoor was excellent and has acted superbly well as always, as has Bomen Irani as Katrina's Father.
Unfortunately that's it really, the rest were just average performances by all, including Salman Khan, so nothing else left to say here.
What Didn't Work?
So Yuvraaj was supposed to be one of the major releases of this year and was highly anticipated, but the question is, was it all worth it??No, unfortunately this film was a huge let down.
The story and direction was really poor considering it was a Subhash Ghai film. It was as though there was no real thought into making this film, and it was a story which has been used several times before so there was nothing new there too.
The performances were a real let down considering the star cast. Salman Khan has given one of his worst performances in this film not to mention his look in the film was totally bizarre!! Katrina Kaif looked really beautiful, but was given no real exposure for acting and was merely used for glamour purposes. Zayed Khan has given a very average performance as has not really made a mark in terms of his acting abilities.
The last half hour has to be the best part of the film as it was the most entertaining considering the rest of the 2 hours seemed to have been wasted on trying to unfold a story to the audience....
It is a real shame that this film did not live up to the expectation I had, as it has to be one of the worst films I have seen this year. I was left sitting in the cinema hall waiting for it to end!!
Music:
The music is by the maestro, A.R. Rahman and lyrics are by the word Smith Gulzaar. Together the duo has given musical masterpieces such as Dil Se, Yuva and Guru. This time round the magic seems to be missing, as the songs of Yuvraaj have not really created that much of a great response to the ears. Songs like "Tu Meri Dost" and "Tu Muskura" are very good but the rest are very average and may take longer to grow on the audience.Considering 'Yuvraaj' is supposed to be a musical, I was expecting a little more in terms of quality of music A. R. Rahman is known for!
Verdict:
The verdict is out, and Yuvvraaj has failed to hit the spot in terms of entertainment and is a thorough disappointment! I was definitely expecting more from this highly anticipated movie, but it has left me asking was there really any need to check this film out??
My advice, save your money folks as this film was definitely not worth the money paid!!!
2 1/2 out of 5
