The hit movie "Slumdog Millionaire" opened doors for many in the Bollywood industry. Now, Hollywoood film companies are starting to take note. Fox STAR Studios, a joint venture between 20th Century Fox Pictures and STAR Pictures is looking to have lightning strike twice for them after the major success of "Slumdog Millionaire." They are looking into buying the rights to market and distribute the upcoming movie "My Name Is Khan." That means maybe, just maybe, Shahrukh Khan will be coming to a Hollywood big screen near you! That's incredible news!
"My Name Is Khan" is one of the most highly anticipated Bollywood movies that will soon be released. Fox STAR Studios wants to acquire the rights to the movie in the hopes that they can have Bollywood's second major crossover hit. "My Name Is Khan" isn't the only movie that has caught Fox STAR's eye.
"It's not only My Name Is Khan, we're in talks with several people/production houses at the moment," Vijay Singh of Fox STAR Studio said. "Let me say, we're keen to build relationships with the best of Bollywood."
Fox STAR Studios is not stopping there. They are also looking at hiring some of the best Bollywood directors the industry has to offer. "Well, we already have a 2-film deal with Vipul Shah, but I wouldn't like to reveal the names right now. We would make an official announcement once the time is right," Vijay states. Reportedly, one of those movies is the Shah-directed "Action Replay" scheduled to be coming out soon. For all you Tamil movie buffs, he is also aligning himself with Murugadoss to make Tamil films for Fox STAR.
Fox Searchlight Pictures, a division of 20th Century Fox Pictures distributed "Slumdog Millionaire" throughout the United States and Canada in a collaborative effort with motion picture giant Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie would gross over $350 million worldwide. As of press time, Dharma Productions has the rights to "My Name Is Khan." The movie is scheduled to be released in 2010. This is great news for an industry looking for more viability, and if "My Name Is Khan" becomes the film industry darling for 2010, perhaps Shahrukh Khan can become not just one of the biggest Bollywood actors, but one of the biggest actors in the world.
Let us know what you guys think of major film companies knocking on Bollywood's proverbial door to attempt to break more Bollywood projects worldwide.
