She was due.  Yes, I knew, she was due.  Freida Pinto dazzled the red carpet yesterday with one of the best gowns of the evening.  Her gown was made by John Galliano.  It was one sleeved and decked out all the way down to her Jimmy Choo sandals.  Yes, she delivered big time with this one!

Now, I had written about Freida Pinto's fashion sense on the red carpet in recent weeks and said that she was definitely saving the best for the biggest night of the year.  That she did with that dress!  It's like she took everything people had said about her prior red carpet appearances, put it all together and made sure she got it right.  The plastic sleeves are gone, replaced with the cloth used for the rest of the gown, decorated fully.  Also, you gotta give here credit for once again going against the norm.  Normally, people wear white, black, and maybe cream.  At the Golden Globe Awards, she went with a gold colored dress that some liked and some didn't like.  This time she went with royal blue and everyone can agree that she looked majestic in it.  It made her stand out in a room full of standouts!  Way to go, Freida!

Some are saying Freida Pinto and other actresses like Kate Winslet decided to go with a classier look.  Winslet, too, wore a blue gown by Yves Saint Laurent.   Most everyone else stuck to popular contemporary glamour with strapless white gowns.  Now while for the most part, everyone looked dazzling.  However, Freida Pinto and a couple of other actresses like Winslet and Sarah Jessica Parker stole the show.  It's only fitting that on the night that "Slumdog Millionaire" takes home 8 Oscars including Best Picture that Freida Pinto also had the best gown.  It's a cool way to make up for not being nominated personally for anything.

Now let's also give Dev Patel his props too.  Dev wore a custom-tailored black shawl collar two button tuxedo by Burberry.  Good choice!   He didn't have that ventriloquist look that I thought he had on previous red carpet outings.  All in all, they did their homework, their stylists earned their checks, and they've set the bar very high for what they could come up with next.  So, tell us your thoughts about Freida Pinto's dress.  Was it a good choice or bad choice?  Do you think she had the best gown of the night?  Drop us a comment with your opinion on this dress.

sick of her

No doubt the dress is lovely... but the dress combined with her hair, made her look OLDER; not just by few years but decades. Perhaps that is what she wanted to portray... but I would prefer to see her in outfits that make her look her age at public appearances like this. I think you will find that some established style critics would agree with me too on this. However, at the end, it is just so great to see her grace the red carpet. Of all the people in the country like India, no other person could have pulled it off as good as she has done during the entire award season. She is in touch with norm and the fame or the exposure hasn't had any adverse effect so far, which is a sign of a down to earth personality. While the phenomenal speed at which she had risen to the top, will take time to sink in, as there is incredible amount of high level exposure, fame, life and good fortune packed into few months, for any human being to digest in that time frame. Frieda now needs to put this incredible, unbelievable, never-in-my-dreams-type of fortune to good use, which I am sure she is more than capable of. Freida, represented INDIA well and every Indian should be proud of her.
