Today marks the day that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born. We remember Gandhi for his non-violence protests that brought about India's independence from British rule in 1947. This lawyer turned activist didn't only play a role in India's independence, he also inspired many political leaders, activists, and everyday people with his message of peace. Albert Einstein once said about Gandhi that "generation to come, it may be, will scarcely believe that such a one as this even in flesh and blood walked upon this earth."
Gandhi has been depicted time and time again in numerous films. In 1982, he was portrayed by Ben Kingsley in the biographical movie "Gandhi." Across the globe there are statues of the Mahatma to remind us of his work, and he has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize five times. Though Gandhi was never awarded with a Nobel Prize, the Dalai Lama dedicated his to the Gujarati political activist.
Decades later we remember Gandhi for all his accomplishments. His motivation, endurance, and ethics are definitely admired and inspirational. Google has taken notice of Gandhi's birthday, and they have created a Google logo in his honor. The "G" in Google has been replaced by Gandhi's face and we have to admit that it looks great!
Do you like the specialized Google logo? Are you doing anything for Gandhi day? Let us know.
