Hundreds gather in New York city at the Asia Society and Museum today to watch fifteen distinguished films that are focused on Sikhs globally. Although the movies are based around the community The Sikh film festival attracts a diverse audience. Key leader of the event ,Paul Johar, commented, ' This festival is for everybody, it is about Sikhs but our main goal is to educate people about the Sikh community and dispel any misconceptions.'  

American actress Katheryn Winneck was also intrigued by the festival. Winneck was asked to host the Gala that kicked off the event. The actress that has worked for shows like 'Law & Order' was drawn to the festival because of her love and appreciation for the Indian community. When asked if she would ever consider Bollywood she enthusiastically answered 'yes'.

Renowned films such as 'Sikhs in America and 'Pahelwani' are amoung the repitore of movies that will be shown. The event will end with the feature presentation of the popular film , 'Ocean of Pearls' .

Famous Punjabi singer Rabbi Shergill peformed at the gala that kicked off the event. More music follows at the after party featuring international DJ Rekha.

The film festival is held by the 'Sikh Art & Film Foundation'.
