Director Nikhil Kamkolkar has created a quirky romantic comedy, 'Indian Cowboy,' that pokes fun at the conventions of Hollywood and Bollywood romantic comedies. In this film, Nick is a young writer who falls in love with Sapna, a beautiful, sarcastic woman visiting from India. She challenges his idealistic view that all romance ends in happy endings with her frank, cynical opinions on love. As she points him in the direction of the great tragic epics of the Bollywood film industry, he works on polishing his own Hollywood script. Of course, the opposing perspectives of these two young individuals can only push them closer together.
This film is a romantic comedy featuring ensemble performances and exciting, new South Asian music, that give this tongue-in-cheek comedy about love, sex and relationships in the 21st century an energetic, youthful pulse. Some of the artists featured on the soundtrack are Karsh Kale, Karyshma, Kam Dhillon, Val Emmich and Leslie Nuss. The film also stars a very diverse set of actors - the result of a color-blind casting experiment by writer/director Nikhil Kamkolkar. He went about casting based on talent, not race, while staying true to the story. He avoided stereotypical, put-on indian accents one hears so frequently in hollywood films. 'Indian Cowboy' features rising stars of the South Asian diaspora including SHEETAL SHETH (‘Looking for comedy in the Muslim World,’ ‘Princess and the Marine’) and DEEP KATDARE (‘American Desi,’ ‘Bombay Dreams’) along with other indie stars such as SUNDRA OAKLEY (‘Sex and the City,’ and recently on ‘Survivor : Cook Islands’). The film will be released on February 23.
