Introducing Girl Group - DMajor

May 19 2009 09:35 PST

Girl groups are music royalty all around the world.  From the Supremes to TLC and from En Vogue to the Spice Girls, girl groups are here to stay.  Even in the Urban Desi scene girl groups like Rouge and Serese have begun creating infectious tunes.  They better watch out now because a new Desi girl group, DMAJOR, is ready to reign.

DMAJOR consists of three sisters, Anusha, Shibani and Apeksha, with three different backgrounds.

Anusha, who is an MTV India VJ, has also appeared in a few Bollywood films and co-starred with Shilpa Shetty in her 'Miss Bollywood' musical.
You may have seen Shibani when she hosted several television shows, 'Namaste America,' 'V Desi' and 'AVS.'  She's also worked behind the scenes and in front of the camera in modeling and fashion shoots.

Apeksha is the sister who has a prominent singing background and has released a Hindi album, 'Ikraar.'

The sisters live all over the world, with Apeksha living in the UK, Shibani residing in NYC before moving to Mumbai and Anusha staying in Mumbai.  Their passion for music led to their desire to start their own girl band. So the three of them set out to create an album and Shibani tells us the album will be diverse, predominantly pop with hints of R&B and an Asian fusion. Their unique personalities mesh very well together.   "Anusha is fun and bubbly by nature and that's what MTV loves about her.  Whereas Apeksha is a little quieter and kind of mysterious, she is kind of the little gangster.  I am the eldest I am reserved and feminine," said Shibani.

They plan to target India first.  "In India there is no such thing as a girl group.  That's why we want to make history, we want to be the Destiny's Child of India," said Shibani.

The girls think they have what it takes to be the ultimate South Asian girl group. "Definitely there are not many Asian girl groups at the end of the day but each group brings something different to the table."   "We are different because we are all singers, dancers and performers and all 3 of us are fantastic vocally. We are all rounder's and being sisters as well we definitely have a different dynamic," said Shibani.

In the next few months we'll see the release of the girl's new album and we'll see if they take India and the world by storm!  What do you think of DMAJOR? Listen to some snippets of their tracks below.

Dear All, I know Rouge very well. There are a few facts that need to be addressed. Rouge have not been concentrating on their music career because they have been finishing their studies. This summer Amrita will qualify as a Dentist, Laura will become a Doctor and Nicola will finish her Fashion Marketing degree from the Elite London school of fashion. They have been back and forth from New York, L.A and Miami to work with some of the biggest music producers and songwriters in the world. Please check their myspace to find out who (www.myspace.com/rougesongs) And yes they have done a song with Timbaland, but there are other big names such as Jaylien, Alan Sampson, Evan Rogers and Cutfather among others. The girls will be moving to the States later this year to finish their album and shoot new videos ready for release next year. Their record label is still disclosed for legal reasons because their is a dispute with Mark Morrison (Return of the mack) and his former record company Mona Records over the girls recording rights. Watch out for Rouge's song written by James Faunt Le Roy who wrote No Air for Jordan Sparks and Chris Brown. It's going to be a huge song and surprise the Asian scene.

Anumani I wish I was friends with Rouge and Serese. Sometimes groups have fans. We are the people that buy the songs and are interested in the talents progress. I suppose you don't know DMajor? I spend a lot of time in India, never heard of the girl you say is famous. As far as I'm aware Rouge are more famous and their song Dont Be Shy was beyond huge which incidentally I do not like. I personally think it's crap but there new songs sound amazing. As for Serese they've had a few hot songs too they just don't have the backing Rouge seem to have.

I agree all 3 groups are different. Good luck to all of them. I think Rouge has the best chance at mainstream success and they are a lot better then they used to be. Serese can really sing and DMajor should do well in India.

to be honest, all three groups have their positives. serese will be making big noise later this year and as for rouge, they have a super hot new member but no word on new releases yet. dmajor look good, shibani looks hot! 'bad boy' could be a big tune. good luck to all 3 girl groups! at least the asian music industry is becoming a place for more and more girls... hope to see some more soon!!

Not feeling the songs but the girl in the middle is fit. 1 girl in serese is fit (the short 1) but all the girls in rouge are looking tick. I think serese's songs are ok but rouge are in a different league and d major and serese have alot of catching up to do.

Good Stuff

not feeling "still your girl" but "bad boy" is great and they can sing in punjabi!

Sickyduz - you are clearly friends with serese and rouge. Serese are not good looking and the reality is to make it as a girld band you have to be hot!! Rouge had 1 great song "don't be shy" which was fantastic and they are hot - they have got very involved in the desi scene and one of the girls is desi. But lets face it they haven't been able to make it which is sad. Anusha is already a huge name in India and her sisters are really good looking and can sing. The music is good, they have a good chance... I like them.

Davinder explain why you think Rouge are old and washed up? Visit their myspace (www.myspace.com/rougesongs) then come and post your comment. I would love to know where you get your information from. I heard the samples of DMajor, there not as good as Serese. They don't look or sound as good.

This group will def. go far. They have a unique sound. Serese better watch out.. and as for Rouge... they old and washed up now...

Why do Desi Hits insist on calling Rouge Desi? There's nothing Desi about them. What! just because 1 girl is Indian. There songs have nothing Desi about them. There producers and songwriters are not Desi. They are not involved in the Desi scene. Compare DMajor to Serese. Rouge are in a class of their own, they look and sound much better then these Desi gals.
