Ever since mid-January, we have seen thousands of contestants on "American Idol" get whittled down little by little.  Some had great talent while others were simply a pain to hear.  We saw singers we thought would flat out contend who just couldn't hack it and singers we thought wouldn't last who exceeded all expectations.  Now, it comes down to the final two, and those two contestants are Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.  Yes, I am well aware that my pick to win it all, Danny Gokey, was eliminated on last night's show.  I'm not saying it's right, but I am resigned to what will wind up happening.  Then again, I think all three of these guys will get recording contracts and do well in the future, so at this point, they're fighting for the title, not necessarily for a career.

88 million people voted last night and the separation between Kris Allen and Danny Gokey was less than a million.  That's extremely close.  Some would say that the final of Adam vs. Kris will be interesting, but if you've been watching the show the last few weeks, you can tell that the judges and the rest of America are going to make sure Adam Lambert wins it all.  While his shrieks and ability to go from hard rocker to slick crooner impress fans everywhere, I still don't know what the fuss is all about with him.  I guess Simon Cowell blatantly rooting for Adam to win it all has just made me a bit more disenchanted with the end result.  Kris Allen has been hit or miss this entire season.  He could have easily gone home several weeks earlier, but managed to survive and advance every week.  In some ways, he should win, but let's be honest,  he doesn't stand a chance now.

Simon Cowell said, "None of us would have predicted this, guys ... no disrespect because you were brilliant last night and just now ... by the way, Danny, congratulations. But Kris, your second song [ a well done acoustic cover of Kanye West's "Heartless"] in particular made you a contender. You're in with a real shot. Adam, you know we've always liked you. This could be what we call a big ding-dong coming up next week."

The singers will perform three songs next week in what will be a two part finale.  The question probably won't be, "Will Adam Lambert win?" but rather, "How will Adam Lambert react to winning?"  Had Danny Gokey stuck around, the debate would have been a bit more interesting.
