Producer and DJ extraordinaire J-Nas is currently working on some earth-shattering projects. In this Desi Hits! Exclusive J-Nas tells us more about the productions that he has lined up as well as his collaborations with two of the biggest singers in Bollywood, the honey voiced heart throb Sonu Nigam and the legendary Asha Bhosle.
J-Nas gave us EXCLUSIVE info on producing Sonu Nigam’s first English album which will incorporate a multitude of genres such a pop, rock and R&B. The album will no doubt be a mix of sounds that J-Nas is known for, but will also incorporate a new sound called “Street Rock”. This new sound was carved from Pink’s producer Jay World the Specialist along with George Barnes and George Vega (DJ Skribbles Management) and will define some of the tracks on the album. Street Rock gives a pop and R&B feel to the rock genre while maintaining its core rawness. Collaborating on the album is also established singer Sabrina. If you thought it couldn’t get better than Sonu well… think again! Asha Bhosle has also asked J-Nas to help her do a track. “…it’s both an honor and pleasure to be working with such a legend on a track geared towards American audiences.” J-Nas stated about the upcoming record.
And it doesn’t end there! While in New York he teamed up with DJ Scribbles to work on some beats and compositions for all of his projects. J-Nas is also set to release two other albums: ‘Bollywood Punk’ whose concept came from the track ‘Block Party’ off of his ‘America’s Most Wanted 3’ album which is supposed to be released sometime in November; and ‘American Desi’ a Bhangra Desi album to be released sometime in December. As if that wasn’t enough, J-Nas is also releasing his first house album entitled ‘Destination Mumbai,’ to help get the word out about the South Asian House Music scene.
Having spent 15 years in the business, J-Nas isn’t about just making hot beats but also working on projects that have purpose and substance to them. He believes that it’s important that artists have a more commercially viable edge to their music. “In this business there is a theory behind it and I think people need to be more educated on the business before they get into it. It may look simplistic looking at just doing beats but there’s a lot more to it.” said J-Nas. Why J-Nas and not Sanj? He wants to be known as a producer that happens to be South Asian, not a South Asian Producer. Desi Hits! couldn’t agree with you more.
