Desi Hits! was first to bring you all the exclusive info on the biggest dance competition in the US known as Best of the Best, and now we’re bringing you the scoop on the first of the nine talented dance teams that will compete to find out who truly is the best. Boston University’s ‘Jalwa’ is an Indian Fusion dance team that will be competing in the Bollywood Fusion category, and captains Deep Patadia and Monica Jain gave us all the info on what the team is all about and how they got to Best of the Best.

When ‘Jalwa’ competed and went on to win at the Dace Fusion competition in New Jersey last October, they had no clue at the time they were at a Best of the Best qualifying competition which automatically gave them an invitation to the competition. But once they realized things quickly changed. “They’ve [Best of the Best] never had a team from Boston there and we want to show them what we’re all about,” said Monica.

“BOB is the ultimate check point of how well we’ve done,” said Deep. Ever since October the team has been planning, practicing, getting costumes made and perfecting their craft. The interesting thing about this team is that they combine Bollywood with everything from hip hop to salsa to jazz and classical, yet they still hold on to their traditional roots. Passion is their biggest motivator, hence the name ‘Jalwa’ which means passion in Hindi. Will ‘Jalwa’ be the winning team at Best of the Best in April? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
