Jay Sean - 'Me Against Myself' vs 'My Own Way'

Jay Sean week continues as we follow Jay to Croydon as he continues his whirlwind album promotion tour. This time we talk to Jay about old versus new, 'Me Against Myself' versus 'My Own Way'!
Well for starters to give you an idea of how massive 'My Own Way' already is, it's entered the charts in the UK at the mid-week position at #6 - the highest selling RnB album! Where as 'Me Against Myself' had peaked at #29... Talk about major growth! And it could still get higher yet as the week goes on.
Moving on to the music itelf, it's quite aparent when you listen to the albums, just how different they are. "It's a bit different from 'Me Against Myself,' in the sense that 'Me Against Myself,' was slightly more aggressive and angry, it was just like here's this Asian kid and he's got so much to say and he's got so much to get off his mind and his chest, you know why don't you accept me in the black music industry and this that and the other. The point of it was sort of young, edgy aggressive young kid, who kind of just wanted the whole world to understand why don't Asians get accepted," said Jay. And for this album, all of that's completely gone. Gone is the aggressive, Adidas wearing, spiky haired Jay instead he's been replaced with suave and slick, D&G wearing, RnB Jay Sean. 'My Own Way' reflects the growth of Jay not only as an artist and a songwriter, but as a person as well.
Something else that's changed about this album is that there's no production from Rishi Rich or Mentor, as well as no South Asian influenced tracks, where as that's what really dominated 'Me Against Myself.' But Jay tells us that's not a concious choice, but rather one that just happened. As Rishi began working with H Dhami and Jay with J-Remy and Alan Sampson the two didn't find time to jump into the studio together. While he says he may go back to that sound, for right now he's doing what suits him and what he feels his sound should be.
Jay's created a true RnB album, one that may be different from his debut album, but in our eyes outshines it and shows what Jay Sean is capable of and where he's going.
