"Jail" cast celebrates Diwali in jail? Really? Although I am all about humanitarian efforts, the fact that the "Jail" cast celebrated Diwali in jail seems quite weird. I think it’s lovely that they want to share this joyous holiday with people who have obviously faced dark times but what is the deal with premiering the song "Data Sun Maula Sun" from the film on stage in prison? 

The song tells the story of a man who is accused of a crime he didn't commit and is sent to jail where he faces his inner demons while rotting in the prison walls. What kind of message are they trying to give the inmates?  You guys don’t belong here?  Ok, well the justice system does fail at times but if you are addressing a body of inmates there has got to be a true killer in there somewhere!  Send out messages of how to improve your life, don’t tell people to fight back because they supposedly shouldn’t be there!

I think the fact that they handed out sweets to the inmates at a Delhi prison is sweet but to make it like a single release party is really odd. In fact, it made the whole thing look really fake to me! If Neil Nitin Mukesh was moved by the film and spent a day with inmates handing out Diwali gifts and autographs that would have sold me.  Premiering a single and smiling for photographs with the inmates in the background seems like a publicity stunt to me!   Aside from taking photographs the cast should have done more. 

Well regardless, it is nice that  it brought happiness into these prisoners’ lives. Hopefully they haven’t created uproar in the prison with the inmates fighting to get out because they don’t feel like they belong there. Well luckily I haven’t heard about that yet, and anyways maybe Neil Nitin Mukesh and Madhur Bhandarkar felt like they brought change to the world! Maybe they felt like they did good, but all I have to say to my lovely friends in the industry is to do a better promotional job next time!  Xo….
