Life After 'Humrahee'

January 08 2009 16:45 PST

Urban Desi singer, Raghav released his first single, 'My Kind of Girl' featuring famed rapper Redman (more of that East meets West fusion we a Deshits love so much!) to much fanfare.  He then followed it up with the Hindi track, 'Humrahee,' which had an undoubtedly Bollywood flair.  Since then Raghav's been busy doing live shows and promoting the release of his new album and he's released both singles.  So what is next after 'Humrahee'?  Well Raghav is all set to finally release his highly anticipated sophomore album, 'Identity.'  While it was supposed to be released last year, the album has been pushed back many times.  And while no official date has been set, we're sure it'll be hitting shelves very soon!

Like any other artist, Raghav's career has seen many ups and downs, from leaving his old label and long time manager, Nyrone Prasad, to signing with a brand new label and management team.  His long awaited album has been delayed a number of times, but it's only added to the anticipation from all his fans.  As inconveniencing as these delays are one can assume that it won't wind up like 'Chinese Democracy' from Guns & Roses (what's left of them), which took 15 years to come to fruition.  Aside from Raghav's sophomore album getting delayed, what do you think were Raghav's major highs and lows in his career and what do think about them?

Lows aside, one thing's for sure, the release of his sophomore album, 'Identity' will be one of the major highs in his career.  I have had the privilege of hearing a majority of the album, and there's no doubt in my mind that it will be a major success.  But we want to know what you guys think.  Will the new album live up to the success of 2004's 'Storyteller'?  Drop us a comment with your thoughts on the matter!

raghav is great.. i wouldnt mind repeating this over and over again...... 'storyteller' is not just the compilations of songs... its the sound that i live on by the day..... it sounds as fresh as it did in o4...... raghav is not just the artist of the decade... he is the milestone of 21 century.... damn true.... the new songs bring out the same person in raghav and its simply awsm... and especially humrahhee... a nerve soothing experience... i just wanna meet raghav once in my life... the biggest dream that i live on.... and my musical inclination is all because of raghav... he is responsible for all that im on the side of creativity...... god bless raghav... and may all his problems vanish... and may he create more records touch the success till infinity.... peace..... raj

Agreed, I think Raghav's future is making songs for low-key Bollywood films, kind of a "behind-the-scenes" singer where actors will lip-sync and dance over his tracks. I wish him the best, but I think his window of opportunity of being a "star" passed him by. There are only so many slots he can fill at low-budget shows like Manchester Mega Show, singing the same old tired songs from 2004.

Raghav should go to India and sing for films, I think that's his calling, especially after I heard of Humrahee

Raghav's career - R.I.P

Raghav-Fan, raghav's previous forum shut down about a year ago but a new one has been put up via raghav.com and the site is regularly updated with news. However, i agree the tour dates section is not updated as often as it should. Nevertheless, the events he does are sometimes private and usually they are quite big. I can definately say in the UK he has done many big gigs in the last few months. For example, he performed on the same stage as Jay Sean, YAA, H Dhami, DJ H and DJ Rags a number of times last year, i guess it's just bad luck that you never see a flyer because i catch news of his gigs at least once every fortnight. Also, every gig he has done in the past year, he's performed at least one song from Identity, and so his new material is getting heard, just not enough because people who claim to be his 'fan' don't bother to hear it lol. And finally, those fans from his big fansites and forums haven't moved on because they were fans for life =) X

How can Raghav be soooo much? Where is he doing all these tours/events that he says he's doing? Ive never seen a flyer!!! His big fansites and forums closed down years ago, those fans have moved on. Although you cant compare Raghav and Jay Sean, Raghav's management team need shooting, there soo slow and out of date with how to promote in the 21st century. Ive lost interest in Raghav aswell, and due to all the delays which are not his fault, i dont have high hopes for his album, unfortunately. Raghav needs to start performing NEWWWW material at BIGGGG events/gigs to have an impact!!!

Big raghav fan here, but he hasn't been touring in the U.S, we don't know where he's been. He may come off sweet and humble in the interviews, but in person he's kinda standoffish... Reconnect baby, you're primed for a comeback, but perhaps hire management that know how this game works?

Hey guys..most of you probably know im a die hard Raghav fan and have been ever since he came on the scene...regardless i think his career has been rather like a mountain range recently, and my kinda girl should have reached a lot more people than it did...the marketing has been rather poor but understandably, he has been doing a lot of touring, especially in the US and it's time for him to return to the Uk and the mainstream British Asian Music scene...when Identity eventually does hit the stores, it will be incredibly successful and i have high hopes for Raghav this year...don't worry people, don't forget about him so easily because he'll be back with a bang...x

Raghav is so talented and comes across very sweet and humble in his interviews and on tv, dont get me wrong i like jay sean and hes done brilliantly this year but I think Raghav would have been bigger had he the right management, his marketing has been so rubbish :( I love him regardless

I think Raghav's new manager doesn't have a clue about what he's doing, he should've stayed with Nyrone, he's the best in the business and everything was going good for Raghav with him. Lets see what Nyrone does with his new artist now-I think Raghav's got competition and I agree with Sonia that we can't even compare Raghav and Jay Sean anymore, but still...maybe he will rise again.

y did raghav leave 4 so long? i realy hoped he wud cum bak with sumthing stronger like jay sean. and why did he leave his old manager? isn't he managing the new guy navin now? i luv humrahee but it hasnt dun anything and now im looking forward to identity but i dont think it will be as big as jay seans album. c'mon raghav fix up!

raghav needs to get his head in the game!

Raghav's management team really dropped the ball on this one. At one point, Raghav was a rising star, but that's all passed now. He's washed up. I don't know if it's the constant delays of only his second album (the excuses are getting tired) or his team booking him at second rate live shows (when the majority of people in the audience are aunties, you know you're losing it), but whomever is managing his career is horrible. I know he's gone through a lot of different managers, but the team running it during the past year have really messed up his career. Still a fan of Raghav, but I'm not sure if his past fans will come back after 5 years of waiting!

January 08, 2009 18:49 PST

From having many prominent fansites for Raghav, i can firmly say Raghav has lost large chunks of his fanbase. Interest in Raghav has dwindled gradually over the years. If he is to release his new album, his management team have a huge marketing campaign to emabark on. Personally, i dont think Raghav will make much of an impact if he returns

January 08, 2009 16:59 PST

To be honest im not sure. I myself am a fan of Raghav and I think his new single was ace however it did not make any noise if we be honest. And comparing it to his fellow peer Jay Sean I can defo say we can no longer compare the two. Jay sean has gone from strength to strength an 2008 was his year by far. I think Raghav has the wrong management behind him. Humrahee is a nice song but who is his target audience? As its not a hindi album or bhangra album. And if he is catering for the mainstream then please take a leaf out of Jay Seans book or else the only "Story Telling" will be of the success of Jay Sean. (Pun Intended) lol
