Ok, the success of Lil Wayne is getting a little bit redundant to write about, but never the less we can't help but report to you that Lil Wayne's song 'Lollipop' was the top selling ringtone of 2008 according to the Nielson Companies Ringscan report selling 2.36 million ringtones.  A close second was fellow rapper and comeback kid T.I. who's song 'Whatever You Like' was purchased 1.62 million times.

Flo Rida's 'Low', gospel singer turned wild girl Katy Perry's 'I Kissed A Girl' and Usher's 'Love In This Club' songs get honorable mention rounding out the top five.

Hip Hop dominated the ringtone scene this year with two artists who aren't your average "ringtone rappers". Although some skeptics claim Lil Wayne's popularity is a bit fabricated by media and his record label, these ringtone sales say something different.

Along with popularity for negative reasons such as his possession of machine gun charges,  T.I. seems to have turned it all around not only selling the second largest amount of ringtones in Hip Hop but also the second largest amount of records.  

So who still thinks Hip Hop is dead? As far as record and ringtone sales the genre seems to be ruling for 2008. Will its success carry into next year?  The success of Lil Wayne is now at an all time high so topping this year for him will be quite a task. And if the skeptics are right he will probably fade to black like Mr. Carter senior Jay-Z.
