Rapper turned rocker Lil' Wayne is going to have to hold off a bit on showing the world his rock side. His planned rock album entitled 'Rebirth' was initially scheduled for an April 7 release, but has now been delayed to May 19. Uh oh! If an album that isn't supposed to come out for another couple of months gets delayed now, who knows when the album will finally come out?
Things are being done though to keep promoting this record. His first single, 'Prom Queen,' has shot up the charts and peaked so far at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He has already shot a video for the song and presumably will release the video when the album is ready to restart its buzz.
Lil' Wayne's got a lot on his plate though. He's working on the official follow-up to his Grammy winning album 'Tha Carter III,' a Hot Boys reunion album (this is long overdue), and a compilation album of artists that are on or affiliated with his record label, Young Money Entertainment. So just because he's not immediately releasing his rock album doesn't mean he's not keeping busy. If you're a Weezy F. Baby fan, I'd check all of these records out. His Young Money songs are really good.
'Rebirth' is definitely a record aimed at being the 2009 version of Kanye West's platinum smash '808s and Heartbreak.' Drake, a rapper affiliated with Lil' Wayne (and Jimmy Brooks to those who watch Degrassi: The Next Generation), says Lil' Wayne's album is going to be something you've never heard from him before.
"It's something different in just that whole 808's and Heartbreak, just throwing individuals off," Drake said.
If you missed out on going out to your local arena to watch Lil' Wayne perform, don't stress out! Lil' Wayne will be back on the road with his 'I Am Music' Tour. The tour features T-Pain, Keri Hilson, Gym Class Heroes, and Gorilla Zoe. There, you can see him rock out all day!
If it makes you feel better, Tha Carter III's release date was not only delayed, but some of the songs that were supposed to be on the album also leaked onto the internet. How'd that work out? Are you waiting patiently for his new album or are you frustrated with yet another release date that can't stick? Drop us a comment and let us know what you think!
