Meet Author Anar Ali

December 03 2006 20:00 PST

Baby Khaki’s Wings, is a many-splendored thing. She transports you from sparkling balls in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to the cold reality of scratching out a life in Alberta, with a touch of magical realism here and shock of recognition there. With the East African Ismaili community that originated in India as the central character, she explores in rich detail notions of home, exile and starting anew. Fresh from the Artwallah festival in Los Angeles, join us on NexGen: THINK! as your host Rachana visits with Anar to discuss her work, life and inspirations.

Anar Ali holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The National Post, and Event among others; and her fiction has been nominated for various awards including The Journey Prize, The National Magazine Award, The O. Henry Prize, and The Pushcart Prize. Baby Khaki's Wings (Penguin 2006) is her first book. She was born in Tanzania, grew up in Alberta, and lives in Toronto. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN NOW!
