Michael Jackson Honored at the 2009 MOBO Awards

MOBO Awards PosterWe remember last year’s MOBO Awards in London when Jay Sean announced the big news that he had just signed with Lil Wayne’s Cash Money Records, what a night!

But this year’s Music of Black Origin Awards was a night to remember the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Few American artists made their way to Glasgow, Scotland for the event, but Jermaine and Latoya were there to accept their brother’s Lifetime Achievement prize.

Other winners at the 14th MOBO Awards held at the SECC Arena include Keri Hilson for Best R&B Artist, Sean Paul for Best Reggae Artist, and of course Beyonce for Best International Performance and Best Video for "Single Ladies."

The evening was hosted by Reggie Yates and Keri Hilson who introduced acts by British boyband JLS, hip- hop artist Tinchy Stryder, R&B group N-Dubz, and 18-year-old 'grime' singer Chipmunk.

For Kanya King the founder and head of the MOBO Awards, the event was a success: "It feels like we’ve truly arrived. This is what I’ve been striving for all of these years, when people say that urban acts don’t sell. This is the most phenomenal year for British stars ever. I’ve never known a year like this for British music. Just look at the worldwide rise to fame that these artists have had."

Congrats to all the winners! Whether you are established artists or up and comers, we wish you the best of luck in your careers. Hopefully you will have as good a year as Jay Sean!
