Ranbir arrives in a dreamy surreal town and joins as a lead singer in its most posh club. There he meets Rani who plays a prostitute and falls for the young Ranbir. He on the other hand in the course of the film meets a young shy girl played by Sonam who makes next to no conversation with him. However, over time he wears down her defenses and they go on to become good friends. Slowly but surely Ranbir falls in love with her and just when he is about to tell her of his feelings for her she tells him she is waiting for her love – Salman - to return. A year back before leaving, he had promised he would be back and meet her on the same bridge that he saw her waiting. And so Sonam enlists Ranbir's help to find her lost love back is what the rest of the film is all about.
As newcomers the two Kapoors do a good job but Ranibir does shine out more than Sonam and looks like he is well on his way to super stardom. But what left me disappointed at the end of the film is that of late all Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films are becoming predictable. The sets are dark and gloomy, the actress carrying sorrow and baggage, the music haunting and deep – in short his films are all sad and they leave you depressed at the end of it. and as much as films that push you to think are appreciate there are times you want to see films that make you laugh and giggle… and it has been ages since a SLB film did that if ever… so if you are hoping to do all that you have done in all SLB films before this – cry, get depressed and walk out heavy hearted – Saawriya is just the film to watch!
