Music Without Borders Makes 'Hindustani Gangster' Mix Tape

Hindustani GangsterSexy and mysterious! Two words to describe a gangster and two words to describe the newly released fusion mix tape "Hindustani Gangster." The producers behind this project, Music Without Borders, were inspired by similarities between Jay-Z and Denzel Washington’s shady characters in Ridley Scott’s movie "American Gangster" and their equivalents in 70s Indian cinema like the 1978 cult film "Don." So logically their mix tape tries to bring to life the risky world of a Mumbai gangster and portray how it parallels with the American gangster.

""Don," with its story line, brilliant colors, and disco-era style of clothing was reminiscent of American Blaxploitation films like "Superfly" and "Foxy Brown" from the 1970s," Music Without Borders explain on their Web site.

The concept album consists of eight original tracks by Music Without Borders, one original track by producer EleckTro4, and the remaining six are a combination of mashups and edits based on tracks by Dan The Automator, Batsauce, and a few other producers.

From start to finish, "Hindustani Gangster" is very unique. It preserves the impact that Jay-Z left when he told the tale of the dangerous yet lavish lifestyle of a hustler in his album "American Gangster," all the while transforming it to correspond to the life of a Mumbai mobster.

"Hindustani Gangster" has already created a buzz in the music biz. To hip-hop journalist Dream Hampton, who co-authored rapper Jay-Z's unreleased autobiography "The Black Book," the fusion mix tape is "a worthy mashup." And  Jay-Z’s blog, Roc4Life also gave "Hindustani Gangster" a shout-out, calling it "dope."

So check out Music Without Borders’ latest project "Hindustani Gangster" and let us know what you think!
