Making a name for himself with the Western audience after American hip-hop mogul Jay-Z re- produced his track "Mundian to Bach Ke" in 2003, Panjabi MC's next project may bring his name back onto the U.S. music scene.  The MC has teamed up with Brooklyn based rapper  Avion, known as the protégé of renowned hip-hop act Eric B.  Avion is going to give Panjabi MC's original track "Panjaban"  a dose of urban flavor. The "Panjaban Shades On Remix" will take this traditional Punjabi song sung by Manjeet Jelhi and mix in some hip-hop beats plus verses by Avion.  

Panjabi MC had this to say about the track:  "It's a big track on the club scene and I felt it needed a mainstream hook. I felt it had the potential to be bigger.  If a track is getting a good reaction it is worth remixing/collaborating. I heard Avion on a mix tape in US, found out he was working with Eric B and hooked up him from there. It's a good follow up to Mundian To Bach Ke."

There is no denying that Panjabi MC has created sick beats that can fuse well with different genres of music. So this collaboration has great potential but of course only time will tell how successful this song will be.  Although East meets West collaborations are popular and have created major buzz, we all know that disasters have occurred when the collaboration hasn't been done properly. The track will release this February so I guess we will have to wait and see how successful it will be.
