I completely agree with R! Everyone needs to check out Miss Meghna now! One of the purest voices I've ever heard and the girl knows how to command the stage( she ain't so bad lookin either ;) ). If you haven't checked out one of her shows you are definitely missing out on one of the fastest rising stars in the desi music world. Stop with the negativity, open your ears and support all the desi artists in 2008!

Miss Meghna - a diamond in the rough! Finally, something different - she sings AND writes (and doesn't have to rely only on sexuality??) - virtually unheard of these days. just cuz it ain't been discovered don't mean it ain't worth the wait ... p.s. why all the negativity in some of these comments? we SHOULD be supporting all desi artists - it's about time we get some good representation in the worldwide music biz ...

I think Hard Karur should be the one... for 2007 but Swami had only 1 hit, and he just a regular commercial musician, same old thing over and over again. he need to come up with something new.

hey dubs... are you aware that Thara released an album in 2007? It sold a TON of copies in Japan. according to some charts it went top 100. On a major label too....

Swami followed by Hard Kaur...they actually RELEASED ALBUMS in 2007...the others can try for 2008..lol

Jay Sean all the way! Its not even close. Ride is ALL over UK Radio..not JUST Asian radio...POP and URBAN too! So with just ONE release Jay accomplised what NO other Desi artist accomplished in ALL of 2007...REAL MAINSTREAM RADIO PLAY. I guess Thara gets honorable mention here too because once again she finds a way onto Hot 97 in the states again..but its not as big as what Jay acomplished with Ride It

i think the fact that most of these artists havent been...releasing stuff this year and they are still in the top ten is an achievment in itself...i mean seriously...Raghav..has been recording his new album *due out next year* and to be honest...even though im a HUGE fan...i would say there are..better..in a sence that they've released more music and have been active...artists..but his songs are like anthems you still hear so confused nearly 4 years after it was released and angel eyes...almost everyone i ask has heard angel eyes..huge tunes

well about THARA .... I don't know a ton about the other artists, and I will try to learn more! but In response to the person who asked what Thara has don in 2007, that I know about. She released her debut album in Asia, with a duet with JOHN LEGEND!!! She charted TOP 100 in JAPAN!! She wrote 2 Platinum selling songs for Mainstream Artists in Germany and Canada (BOTH IDOL WINNERS) She has had 3 of her singles chart on US Urban Radio...and she toured Japan with Ne-Yo this summer! Now that may NOT be as much as the others, I don't know, but anyone can see that she is def working and making moves, regardless of the scene she is in.

It's all about Swami. Great band, great album! Iqbal of course Swami could more than compete with a band like Coldplay (who are pretty mediocre actually). Have you ever seen them live? There's a reason why they have developed a fierce live reputation, it's because they rock and Diamond (DJ Swami) is one hell of a musician! (I've seen him play guitar, bass, keys and talkbox all at once gig once)

Is this list for real? I like to think I keep up with the Desi Music scene but here is my review of this pathetic list.... 1 Raghav-- no album in 07 in fact no album in I think 4 years, yet he's on this list 2 Swami-- Great album great band(for the Indian scene but would they be able to compete against a ColdPlay musically speaking? umm NO 3 Thara-- she did a collabo with Jay Sean and what else oh yea I am sure a few fellas will say she is hot but does that make her artist of the year or body of the year? 4 The Bilz-- Can't hate they made a pop album and it sounded pop but giving them the artist of the year would really mean producer of the year since the Bilz technically aren't artists, so ok compare producers would they be able to beat out say a TIMBALAND for that category or wait even a RDB? 5 Jay Sean-- gotta love how song after song the leaks keep coming(you figure he would tighten up security) but NO ALBUM in 07 actually Raghav and Jay Sean are tied for the amount of albums they have put out 1 and the new look might be attractive for the ladies but the new sound is ehh not my cup of chai 6 Pakman -- 5 words what the F##k is a Pakman ...sorry that was 6 words 7 Miss Meghna-- are we seriously out of artists ?? 8 Reenie- LOL ok does Sanjahya the American Idol HomoSexual Reject qualify for this list at this point? 9 Imran Kahn I like his 1 song that he put out I do, but I also liked the Macarena at one point in time.. 10 HDhami of all the letters you could pick to call yourself H has to be the weakest because desi's pronounce it ech in India... either way where is the music from this guy in 07? where is the music from any of these people in 07?? out of this list we have 2 albums in 07 The Bilz and Swami one of them should win based on that critera alone, but seriously if you were one of them would you be proud with this list? so to spare them the awkwardness of accepting 1st place in the 100m dash (at the special olympics) Let the critera include....... who has worked the hardest on their body? then Jay Sean and Thara's sexy ass deserve consideration but who knows this could just turn into a popularity contest and we could see the DESI ARTIST OF THE YEAR FOR 2007 AWARD go to a man who needs no introduction PAK MAN we have a lot to look forward to in 2008 Happy New Year Iqbal
