While the Bhatt films may not always do well at the box office, it's a well known fact that their soundtracks have a knack for hitting the right chord with audiences. So when it came time to review the buzz about 'Raaz - The Mystery Continues' soundtrack, it's natural to go in with a few expectations. So does this sequel live up to the Nadeem-Shravan produced predecessor?
'Mahi': The soundtrack takes a good start with the Toshi-Sharib produced track that's also sung by Toshi is a trademark Bhatt camp track. Its meld of love-heartbreak lyrics by Sayeed Qadri and western and Indian elements is seamless. The track grabs you on the very first listen and promises to be a chart buster. There's also a 'Rock With Me' version that hits all the right chords and should it be featured in the film, it will definitely be a treat to see how it is picturized.
'Suniyo': Remember 'Bheege Hoth Tere' from 'Murder'? Well if you liked that track (I sure did!) you'll love this 'Suniyo'! Sonu Nigam's velvety smooth vocals, Shreya Ghosal's sweet touches, Kumaar's lyrics and Raju Singh's production combine to make a sweet romantic number that will be picturized on real life couple Kangana Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman. The English vocals come courtesy of Neeraj Shridhar. Overall it is a lovely and melodious track.
'O Jaana': Producer Raju Singh also helms this KK sung or should I say belted out track. It screams dance floor anthem as soon as the beat drops! Raju does a great job on combining different elements to create the unique sound. No doubt this track will be hitting the clubs and charts in a big way. The 'Dance With Me' version by DJ Suketu lacks the hard hitting beat in the original, but should do well in clubs.
'Kaisa Ye Raaz Hai': The haunting number is sung by KK and is obviously a situational one. The musical production is done quite well and although I can't imagine listening to the track in my car or iPod, I may feel differently after watching the film. Still it's a well done track that proves its purpose.
'Banda Re': The track has a devotional/religious feel and is sung by Krishna. Again it's another situational track that isn't one you can necessarily listen to on a regular basis and is definitely forgettable.
Verdict: There's no doubt overall this soundtrack will be a chart topper! While we shouldn't compare the first 'Raaz' to the second as it would be unfair to do so, 'Raaz - The Mystery Continues' serves its purpose and serves it well! Definitely worth picking up!
My Picks: 'O Jaana,' 'Suniyo' and 'Mahi'
Rating: 3 1/2 out 5*
