Satyajit Ray is a name that's important to Indian film and one that can be recognized all over the world. He is an artist who is finally receiving some recognition in the U.S. The Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City is known for their support of emerging and veteran filmmakers and Satyajit Ray has been chosen as their feature artist.
After creating movies from the 1950's all the way up to the 1990's, Ray is finally being honored. He is the very first Indian filmmaker to have been paid tribute by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. His films will be running at the society for the next couple of weeks.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center's purpose is to feature American Independent and World Cinema filmmakers. They are also the ones who are responsible for the well known New York Film Festival. So it's no surprise that they would choose someone who has made many films for almost 5 decades.
Films to be shown include Pather Panchali (Song of the Little Road), Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest), and Teen Kanya (Three Daughters) amongst many others. Satyajit Ray's films are interesting and unlike anything else. His credit to the world of film is definitely one that elicits recognition.
