If you thought the Dreamworks and Reliance deal would top the charts for a mega movie deal this year think again. Shahrukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and Karan Johar's Dharma production's have signed with Fox Star Studio for a marketing and distribution tie up. This is the same Studio that backed up the Oscar winning film, "Slumdog Millionaire." Now Fox Star will try to create the same magic for Johar's highly anticipated film, "My Name is Khan."
While it's being reported that the deal is valued at over RS. 100 crore (approximately, $20,973,154), Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar say that they are not doing it for the money. Khan hopes that this deal will help them reach a newer audience. The actor says, "I am very keen and serious about appealing to an entirely new fan base beyond the NRI diaspora. It's like starting all over again after two decades." SRK feels that his film, "My Name is Khan" will help him accomplish this.
"My Name is Khan" is set post 9/11. The film focuses on discrimination that Rizwan Khan(Shahrukh Khan) faces as a Muslim man. Rizwan suffers from a type of Autism known as Asperger's Syndrome. He falls in love with a single mother, Mandira(Kajol). The story based in San Francisco focuses on how the terrorist attacks affect their life and relationship. The film is set to release in 2010.
Hopefully this film has the international appeal that Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan want to deliver. The filmmaker and actor seemed quite confident that it will as they enthusiastically announced the deal during an event held to present the first look at "My Name Is Khan". With the world embracing Bollywood their desires seems quite attainable. What are your thoughts? Drop your comments below.

Shark Khan, top predator, the real thing; not a silly chimp fake like Akshay, Salman, or hahahaAamir. Shark make big splash in USA.
Yip I totally agree, the base storyline don't seem to agree with people's mentality here. People will not be very receptive. Slumdog is a different scenario. There were several movies made in the same context, where muslims are misconstrued for 9/11 and those moves never even made it to theatres in most cases. I don't think this one will either, people hav had enough of that floating around.
Karan Johar's movies will never succeed with a non-Indian audience. He is just too sentimental, treacly and un-original. People not used to Hindi movies are just not attuned to it. And this movie sounds cliched, the idea of him trying to make a movie about serious themes is laughable. And if it is just the usual garbage about how America is a big bad wolf then it will be even worse. To say nothing about it being a rip-off of Rainman with an autistic character in it.
