Shilpa Shetty isn't just another pretty face. She's a Bollywood actress, model and now a businesswoman! Shilpa Shetty is the Chief Executive Officer of S2 Global Productions Pvt. Ltd. She along with her business partner and boyfriend, Raj Kundra has just purchased a cricket team! That's right, Shilpa Shetty has followed in the footsteps of Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla who own the Kolkata team Knight Riders and Preity Zinta and Jeh Wadia who co-own the Kings XI of Chandigarh.
Shilpa Shetty may own only12% in the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, the Rajasthan Royals Jaipur. But the price she paid is still pretty hefty at about $16.8 million dollars or Rs. 80.6 crore. Well we're glad to know she's also a sports fan and wanted to be a part of something that's so much a part of Indian culture.
She said of recently purchasing and owning the team 'We have taken a strategic approach by investing in Rajasthan Royals - whose brand values we associate strongly with. Cricket is not a sport in our country, it's a religion. I am very passionate about Cricket and who better to invest in than the current reigning IPL champions. It completes the success story for the IPL team by merging with Bollywood.'
It is really a pretty interesting how Shilpa Shetty and many other Bollywood actors and actresses before her have managed to make the sport of cricket and Bollywood one. So what do our readers think about the financial support that Bollywood celebrities give to the sport of cricket? Is it cool that they are wealthy enough to 'own' a sports team? Or do you think that it's kind of annoying and showy of a celebrity to spend money in such a way? Let us know what you think!
