Though the 'rags to riches' love story is slated to release nationwide in Janurary 2009, 'Slumdog Millionaire' will be shown in limited release starting November 12th. Directed by Danny Boyle, 'Slumdog Millionaire' stars Brit-born Dev Patel (Jamal), Madhur Mittal (Salim) and Freida Pinto (Latika), as three kids who move from the bottom of Mumbai's slums to the rich top in different ways - one brother (Dev Patel) wins 'Who Want to Be a Millionaire', while his older brother Salim (Madhur Mittal), uses a gun and power to gain riches.
Veteran actor, Irrfan Khan, plays a police inspector and Anil Kapoor appears as the game show host in the film, which was shot in Mumbai in 2007 and is based on the novel, 'Q and A', by Vikas Swarup. The film had a mere $15 million budget and there's quite a bit of Oscar buzz surrounding the release. Director Danny Boyle thinks the project will help bridge the Hollywood-Bollywood divide: "There will be more and more of that hybrid stuff going on that connects Bollywood and Hollywood. Without a doubt. It just looks natural that it's going to happen." Check out 'Slumdog Millionaire' in limited release in theaters this week!
