Okay, now it's gotten to the point that if you haven't heard of 'Slumdog Millionaire' you either live under a rock or spend your time tending to lepers on some isolated island. The only other situation I can think of is that you stowed away in the trunk of Marty McFly's Delorean and are stuck in the 50's. And if say you are a person that is tired of hearing about it, well you should either find a rock to crawl under or cryogenically freeze yourself and thaw yourself out in 2010 when the buzz is dead.
As if sweeping the Golden Globes, and sending Brad Pitt home crying to tattoo laden Angelina Jolie because his movie couldn't cut it against an Indie movie wasn't good enough; 'Slumdog Millionaire' now has its sights set on the BAFTA's (British Academy of Film and Television Arts). 'Slumdog Millionaire' has been nominated for 11 BAFTA awards including Best Film, Director (Danny Boyle), Adapted Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), Leading Actor (Dev Patel), Supporting Actress (Freida Pinto), Music (A.R. Rahman), Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Sound, and Outstanding British Film.
Going up against the heavyweight cinematic brawler of 'Slumdog Millionaire' is 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' which tied with 'Slumdog' with 11 nomintations. Taking second place is 'The Dark Knight' with nine nominations. With the late Heath Ledger being nominated for Supporting Actor. To further round out the nominations you have the Clint Eastwood (do you feel lucky punk) directed 'Changeling' with eight nominations, 'Frost/Nixon' with six nominations. The rest of the nominations go to 'The Reader' with five nominations, 'Revolutionary Road,' 'Milk' and 'In Brugess,' which are each nominated for four BAFTA's.
So what do the readers of Desi Hits think the odds of 'Slumdog Millionaire' sweeping another awards show are? We can't predict what's going to happen, but we wouldn't want to be the competition. We'd prefer to box a Polar Bear than to go up against 'Slumdog Millionaire' (yes we know we'd lose our arms and heads, but the odds are still better).
